I love ! I like the paw print idea

Babs194068 09-30-2010 03:02 AM

I have no advise for you but that is the cutest quilt I have seen in a very long time. Love the little tigers.

bobolee 09-30-2010 04:19 AM

I love this top! A clever idea!

mimee4 09-30-2010 05:48 AM

I don't have any suggestions for a border or two. Just love the tigers. Your DGS sounds like a charmer.

colleen1978 09-30-2010 06:25 AM

How about some extra blocks with a tiger 'peeking' into the border or into one block with the back end of the tiger going into another block? In the extra block you could use for a poem or picture of you and him together as a signature block.

How about the grass fabric in a 6 inch wide strip on top and bottom with a 3 inch on each side. Do the tigers in a running on the top and bottom and do paw prints on the side's with a sewn swirl from one print to the other. Love your quilt.

Love the paw prints idea!

Maybe a grass fabric border at the bottom and a sky fabric
at the top?

That was my thought too.

tadpoles_62 09-30-2010 08:53 AM

Some really great ideas. Paw prints, grass, peeking tigers. You could put migrating geese, pinwheels. Made leopard print for GD for school and enhanced a panel that was too long and skinny with pinwheels for baby.

eimay 09-30-2010 09:43 AM

Love it! At first I thought like others, the sky and the grass. Then I thought a header and footer. Header with perhaps name and birthdate. Footer with Year of the Tiger.

You think out of the box. Love the quilts.
Love the paw prints.
Thank you

So cute :D

What about a birth statistics banner. Or his whole name, first, middle and last name on the top. Then his other stats on a banner at the bottom. No matter what, it's beautiful and it will be a treasured keepsake. May your bobbin always be full. Patty

do you embroider (sp) or a friend? add a wide strip on top with his name and maybe a tiger at both ends of the strip.

No my machine does not embroider. Sure wish it did.
Thank you for the idea.

barbrdunn 09-30-2010 04:51 PM

I once did a panel at the top with the child's name on it.

OK quilting friends. You have been WONDERFUL!!
Love all of your suggestions and will use them in future quilts.
The quilt is not finished but I couldn't wait to show you what I did.
Sometimes it is good to not have a lot of money. I could not go out and purchase more fabric so I took sand colored and put green vines on it. Then I put on the paw prints and name.
The second picture is a close up to show my stitching. I will complete it with a boarder the same as the shashings and probably bind it with the same.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart. You helped me make this quilt very personal for my 7 month old DGS.
I will send pictures of finished product but that won't be for a few weeks. I will be helping my mother with some stuff so this will be on the back burner for awhile but I will finish it before the end of the month.
Thank you all
Pat

Hope so. He is only 7 months
Thank you

seasaw2mch 09-30-2010 07:51 PM

you could always make a top and bottom boarder with the baby's name on top and birth date on bottom then add the final boarder all around.

karenm36 09-30-2010 07:55 PM

This is ADORABLE! I am new to quilting...how did you make the tigers?

jitkaau 09-30-2010 08:35 PM

A half - sized row of the same tigers across the top and bottom and a quarter sized row on each side??, followed by more of the green as a border. That is, so that you would have approx. 6 tigers on bottom and top and perhaps 10 - 12 along the sides. Alternatively, just their heads as little blocks all the way around.

IBQUILTIN 10-01-2010 12:17 AM

I like the blue and grassy ideas too, maybe make the top and bottom borders wider if you want a more rectangular quilt

As you can see it is almost square and I want it to be longer.
I know I could add another row but am looking for an out of the box idea.
I have seen so many great ideas and so many of you have come to the aide of others.
Please put on your thinking caps.
Thank you so very much for your help.

Not sure if you have already decided but I think I'd make a large tiger face peeking out from the upper left corner (as you look at the quilt, with a tail coming out the upper right, paws on the sides and feed at the bottom like the tiger is holding the quilt. Most of this would be in the border but the ears and tip of tail could stick out from the edges of the quilt. I'd love to see what you decide! :)

What a great idea. I love it but if you look I have posted a pic of what I have done. Just need to put on last boarder.
I will keep that in mind for another quilt.
Thank you,

Sharon Chaffino 10-01-2010 09:15 AM

If you like the width of the quilt you can just ad a wider border at the top and the bottom. That would do the trick.

Here it is. I said I would not get this done till next week but I got up early so I could finish it and then go to my mothers.
Hope you like.
THANK YOU FOR ALL OF YOUR IDEAS.
My quilts usually evolve through prayer and this quilt did but I had LOTS of help from my quilting angels.
Thank you
Pat

Oh my how lovely the quilt will be. How about tiger colored something on the edges?

SharonC 10-01-2010 09:20 PM

Quilting Nana .... you nailed it. Beautiful quilt!

distar2 10-01-2010 09:58 PM

I can picture the borders on it with an appliqued top of the tiger face showing the eyes and ears in the top left corner of the border and in the bottom corner of the border having paw feet and a tail snaking around the side bottom border. :) just a little something fun bringing out the design.
