I am making this tiger quilt for my DGS. He was born in the year of the Tiger and at 7 months he growles.
As you can see it is almost square and I want it to be longer. I know I could add another row but am looking for an out of the box idea. I have seen so many great ideas and so many of you have come to the aide of others. Please put on your thinking caps. Thank you so very much for your help. |
I love this quilt top, those tigers are awesome :D:D:D
Maybe a grass fabric border at the bottom and a sky fabric at the top? |
Tiger stripes at both ends?
Love the tigers! |

Quitling NaNa: I love this fabulous tiger quilt! I like the idea of blue on the top on a grassy print on the bottom. Or how about something like prarie points (spelling) but longer and thinner like its grasses? Not just the points? Time consumering but it could go fast once you get in rythym? Debbie (I spelled it wrong when I joined.)

Thank you for the ideas so far.
I am planning on putting boarders on all four sides using the same fabric as the sashings. I do like the idea of the blue on top and grass on botton. Are you saying to do that then put on the boarders?? |
Tigers also love water. Maybe see if you can get some fabric of Tigers playing in the water, and a jungle at the top and then border with wide sashings of the sashings between the tigers to tie it all in.
|
put them in a window frame that will make it bigger. then use your sashing. However I love it the way it is
|
To me, the sashing fabric already looks like jungle.
I really like this top. As much as I like the idea itself, I would be worried that adding a different green for grasses at the bottom and blue sky at the top will add clutter to both the colors and textures. For me, anyway, the best thing to do would be to add one more row of tigers and an inner border to match the sashing. If more size is wanted after that, then perhaps another border of cat paw prints or tiger-strip fabric. |
I like the idea of the tiger stripes.
|
I like the tiger stripes idea...or maybe pawprints.

I like the idea of a boarder of grass on the bottom, peaking into the border, or make side borders narrow top to bottom, and wider on the top and bottom, since the blocks are taller than wide, will run with the style. :)
No matter what you do that is Adorable !!! |
I love the idea of the paw prints!
|
I don't have any suggestions as I like the sky and grass that has been suggested. But that is one cute quilt :)
|
Depending on how much bigger you want it to be. I like it just the way it is. If you can make it bigger with just a border or 2, the paw prints is a good suggestion.
|
Your quilt is adorable. I like the idea of the grass and the sky borders. Please share with us when you are finished. Can't wait to see your creation.
Peace and Blessings, |
No ideas for you....however, that is the cuties quilt!
|
That is sooooooo cute!!!! I love it. Well, lets see. I see several possibilities. You could make a double row of sashing on the top and bottom and one on the sides. Or, you could take some of the sashing fabric and some white and make a border alternating the white and printt vertical or you cand do it horizontal. Either way would work. This is a great quilt and would be fun to work with. Good job!!

Prairie Points made out of tiger stripes on the top and bottom?
|
Love the tigers. Lots of good ideas for making your quilt longer.
I often have that problem and the very simple solution that I use is to make the top and bottom outside borders wider than the side outside borders. Inside borders are all the same size it's just the outside ones that take care of the problem. So if your side outside borders are 4" you could make the top and bottom borders 6 or 8" to make the quilt the length you want. Please post photo when you finish the quilt, we all would love to see what you came up with. May in Jersey |
because the sashing between the tigers looks like grass or jungle fabric maybe a cloud fabric on top and then water fabric on the bottom and then maybe a piano keys around the whole thing then the sashing fabric again as a think binding of an 1" or 1 1/2"? just a thought and if you need it larger still use the white around the piano keys and you can make the white sides thinner than the top and bottom in white by maybe 1/2" or so. just so that it is a trick of the eye. I am having the same problem with my sons quilt. I am adding an extra row of an other patter on the top and bottom to make it more twin size than square blanky.
|
How about adding his name in appliqued letters with the paw prints to look like tigers running around. just a thought but also love the idea of the sky and grass .
That is soooo darn cute!!!!! |

I thought about putting double sashing on top and bottom but I thought it may not look right. But you think it would look OK? |
Add your borders with grass print and add one bottom border of tiger skin print and trail it off the quilt to make a loop like its an actual tigers tail. Maybe a little lite stuffing and it will make a great blankie handle.

Here is what I am thinking.
I have a mock up here. I thought I would put the sky and on the bottom sand. One the sand I will applique big tiger paws on each side of LOGAN. I will use tiger print fabric for name and paws or I can use black??? Then use sashing fabric for boarders or not have boarders??? If I use the tiger print for name and paws I may put in a tail. Too much going on??? |
