I think your fabric selection is great. What about making the centers all different? I really like the yellow, red and blue prints in the centers.

And does a solid center draw all the attention or does it calm down?

I'd go with the same solid for all the plates - the yellow is fine.

Using a solid unifies the blocks
If you sash, I'd use whatever solid you used as the center.
If you have a corner stone in the sashing, I'd then use a mix of your prints

I like the yellow the best, then the red next. I don't like print for the centers, makes the plate not stand out. Beautiful plates by the way, 30's fabric is my all time favorite.

The solid yellow is the best and more traditional.

What about cream or white for the center?
