I think the stars get lost in option # 2. I like # 1 better. But as they say, "Quilt maker's choice."

I agree with Maria's suggestion to alternate colors on the points of the stars.

I like the first one and I WOULD NOT change the stars!
They stand out better.

The Hodge-Podge is just that...but I'm sure there are equal numbers for each choice.

If I understand your husband's meaning, I am inclined to agree with him. It seems a little heavily black where the two blocks meet in that area, and it could look better with another co=ordinating colour in that spot. Really like the colour combination however, and prefer layout one as well.
