I am doing this quilt for my sister-she picked the colors-I think the pattern is Ohio Star? I am trying to create some sort or rhyme and reason. My husband says add one more color to the large diag. square. My mom likes #2 hodge podge.

#1 keep stars more one color

I may suggest something else. How about if you move around the triangles forming the actual stars to make the alternate evenly. I would keep the lay out #1, but making this slight change. Keep the triangle that is the same color of the center square always have the same alternate pattern. It may give you the rhyme and reason you are looking for. I hope this pic explains what I am suggesting.

I vote to keep stars more one color.

ScrapQuilter 01-13-2011 05:51 PM

#1 for me..............

JudyN 01-13-2011 05:58 PM

Thanks Maria-there are a few I did that with but now see I missed a few. My husband thinks I should add one more color to the large squares or take one out of the star. That would make more of a pattern.

I Like #1 Very pretty

dglvr 01-13-2011 06:13 PM

Number 1 for me too

Crlyn 01-13-2011 06:17 PM

Number 1, very pretty!

JudyN 01-13-2011 06:21 PM

I think I do prefer the stars the 2 colors with the center color and the right point (?) the same color. But what should I do with the 3" square that runs diag w the 2". That is the one my husband said to make a total different color. Any thoughts. I was thinking like a robin egg blue or maybe a deeper purple

blue10moon9 01-13-2011 06:29 PM

My fave... #1.

sueisallaboutquilts 01-13-2011 06:34 PM

JudyN 01-13-2011 07:09 PM

Just what I was thinking too Maria. The lack of symmetry troubles me.

Maria

Maria gave an excellent diagram and I agree with her to give it the symmetry you're looking for. It doesn't look like you've sewn anything, so you have time to change it around. See how she has the orange and purple one alternate star points so that it goes, orange, purple, orange, purple, etc?

Your colors are fantastic and it's going to be beautiful no matter which way you finish it. Very nice. :-)

In the first picture, the 3" squares are the same color as the 2" squares and if you're looking for symmetry, that's the one you should go with. Again, it's going to be a beautiful quilt no matter how you do it. :D
