I have no idea what it is called, although I have seen it before and made it. To draw it, I began with a hexagon, then drew lines between opposite Centers. Then I added equilateral triangles to each side. I called it hex card trick. I made the hexagons about 7-8" across.

I just came across this thread while looking for something on Pinterest. This block would be easy to make with no Y seams if you use a ruler like the Hex-N-More by Jaybird Quilts, but it would require planning for the color placement. I pinned it in Pinterest and would like to try it one day.

I love it...

I just finished a quilt with this star. The pattern is Kyoto Gardens in Judy Martin's book, Stellar Quilts. I find it interesting that the same block can have several names. The block is exactly the same as Hexagon Puzzle. I did change the sashing & border because I found the ones in the pattern were too busy. This block is not paper pieced but is a very easy block to make.

Hello there,
I'm new to this board but saw the quilt you wondered what the name was. It is called hexagon puzzle. I have made at least 3 quilts of this pattern and it's one of my favorites. I will search for the book I found the pattern in and get back to you. Scrapquilter 54 |
I found the book in my library. It is the first book I ever bought. Quick and Easy Scrap quilts. Page 80

I think it’s a Spinning Card Trick Star. Google ‘spinning card trick’ if you can’t open the link. |
