Ignore the gross colors. This would get you to 54" square
You could put sashing in between if you wanted, and then adjust the # of blocks needed. The math works out very evenly. |
Alternatively, go for 16 instead of 9 central blocks.

I like MTS's idea, then you could add borders to make it larger still!

I was also thinking the same thing. If the blocks you've already done are, what, 9" finished, then maybe the next round should be 6" finished, and then a round of 3" finished. Or reversed. Do the 3" next, and then a round of the 6". That's even better. No sashings - just what you'd need to make the math work. Yes, it's a lot of work and blocks, but I think it would be very cool. So you'd start with 3.5" blocks (for the 6" finished) and 2" (for the 3" finished) blocks. Check my math. ;-) |

I like what you have already! Being that you have more fabric of the same you could do more blocks in the same way. MTS's suggestion is a good wone ... and would add to the wow-power to your quilt!

I also like MTS's idea. Another one would be a round of piano keys and then a couple different sized borders.
