I have been working on this for a week or so.. it was from a wall hanging pattern my daughter saw.. I need to make it twin size.;( SO far it is about 36 wide and 62 long..) i just added the trees on bottom yesterday and NEED TO APPLIQUE THEM.
Daughter... wants to add the same up on top............ but I need a lot of width as the over hang is about 14 inches. Also I need to know.... when you applique it all down do you machine quilt over it all or need to go around the pictures? Never done applique before. |
If you have a good machine quilter- you can just have her/him quilt it down- but my preference is to machine appliqué them before quilting it.
I like to put a "blanket" stitch on the edge. But there is... a satin stitch or a zig zag too. It is easier to do the appliqué prior to piecing it to your quilt top. I think putting your little trees on the sides would be really cute. do one per block and add to your sides...does this make sense? You could even add another canoe or a few fish. Good Luck! |
I love it!! You might think of doing a few simple animal appliques also.. or maybe some simple flowers. I applique with the needle turn type method.. then you can outline quilt the shapes and do some quilting inside or not as you like.. also depending on how close you want the quilting.

if it were me, to add width, I would add a large brown border, something with a pattern

You could use a a four-inch border around the top (in a fabric that reads as one color) - what goes on top of the mattress - and then make 15-inch (or so) borders from one fabric that picks up on the themes of the center of the quilt.

My daughter has asked me to move the trees to the top.. and make another panel across the bottom that is a night scene as opposed to the day scene. and that sounds cool..( stars, moon ?
