I don't mean to brag .... wait ... hmmmm ....

to heck with that!

I DO mean to brag because it so rarely happens for me and i'm really excited that it did.

This quilt is perfectly rectangular. cross my heart.

It's the stupid camera doing some wierd fisheye thing that makes it look narrower at the bottom.

and because this is a PatriceJ 100% original pattern.

Leslee 06-23-2007 01:08 PM

Awesome, Patrice! Those colors are great--love it!

love your quilt, Patrice.... I have some yellow material that I recently cut the wrong size... now I know what to do with it.... it only means having to go out and buy some other plainish material to go with it but what the heck !!! Isn't that what shops are for?

Catherine 06-24-2007 03:34 AM

I love bright colors..this is very beautiful. You did a great job. I can't seem to finish a thing!!!

OR you could use up your scrap bag. or do both.

the pattern has 20 different blocks. no specific layout. 17 of the blocks take on 4 different "personalities" as you rotate them. 2 of them have 2 different looks. only 1 looks the same no matter what. if you mirror the block patterns, you nearly double the number of possibilities. effective result is somewhere in the neighborhood of 150 "different blocks". I'd have to track down an algebra text bood to calculate the number of layout combinations but we're easily talking hundreds.

sorry to go on like that. i'm just a little proud of it. can you tell? LOL

and thanks, all, for the compliments. it's scary, sometimes, to post our work isn't it? i want to give this to a friend. now i know she'll really like it and not just "politely" like it. :-)

I always suspected you were a "colorful character. " Now I know for sure.

Keep on stitching and surprising us with your creativity!!

Great colors.

Applause, applause Patrice, take a bow, you did a great job. I think I can safely say you are one of the most colorful people on this blog.

Awesome job! I love the colors. It reminds me of the game Tetris.

patricej 06-24-2007 12:35 PM

i hope "colorful" is a good thing.

Carla P 06-24-2007 01:31 PM

Simply Gorgeous!! I love the layout and the colors make it hard to take your eyes off of it, because you're constantly moving your attention from one block to the next!! Excellent design as well; it really allows the fabrics to shine!! Way to go Patrice!! :D

joy 06-24-2007 01:59 PM

To Patrice

I don't have a very large stash as I have only been doing this for a short time but it is getting bigger .......

Could you please tell us the size of your biggest block.... did you cut out some that size and then cut some down smaller?

You have every reason to be proud.....

I have just put two borders on a quilt and have a third one waiting... unfortunately, I have stretched them when I ironed them... not when I sewed them as I was very careful about that..... do you have any ideas as to what I can do and would it be making the situation worse if I put a third border on? If anyone knows it would be you.....

Norah 06-24-2007 02:16 PM

WOW!! And I know it is perfectly square because you are a perfectly honest person. And pictures lie all the time. I really am 29, skinny and blonde. At least, in my head I am. Great job, Patrice. You rock!! 8)

Knot Sew 06-24-2007 02:42 PM

all the blocks are 8". because they're all different and used randomly, the layout creates optical illusions. the blocks can be resized to any multiple of 4". (unless you're the same kind of insane as marcella and yvonne, in which case i guess you could shrink them to 2" blocks. LOL)

if i had made 12" blocks i would have needed only one of each to make a nice lap size. mine has 30 blocks, so i used a few more than once.

back to the border thing ... if the borders were the right size to start, and you did stretch them while ironing, they might shrink back to size with application of water and pressing or the dryer. if that doesn't work, then the others are absolutely right. remove and re-engineer them.

the stretching thing is why the experts always stress "press" don't "iron". it may be the ONLY thing the Quilt Police are good for. LOL

don't feel bad. we've all done it. i've done it more than once. i'll probably forget and do it again. life goes on. ;-)

and ... Norah ... i am at least blonde for real. as to the rest ... i also prefer my imagination to my reality. LOL

sarah333 06-24-2007 07:27 PM

love it , wow this quilt made me smile .

thanks for the encouragement. :-)

with 20 blocks, this one is probably too much for a magazine. but i've got some more designs in the works, too. i'm kinda hoping to roll out a selection of patterns to sell online within the next year. the Neon Surprise will be one of them. if they don't sell, i'll still have my regular job to fall back on. with so many people already selling patterns, i'm not counting on anything. not even kathy's chickens.

would you recommend a specific magazine in particular? i don't buy or subscribe to any so wouldn't know where to begin.

Celeste 06-25-2007 06:10 PM

Are we really suprised?!?!?

NO!

zyxquilts 06-25-2007 07:16 PM

WoooHoooo!!!!!!!!! Nice job Patrice! And besides everything else, look at those great square binding corners...I am so jealous!

Don't be scared to post your pics....we love to see them all. :D

Looking forward to seeing more of your patterns too!

well I'm quite ashamed of myself, for some reason I thought this thread was a single block she showed us a while back so I just looked today. It's one of those easy and quick and surprises you how good it looks. Now I've got to put the chicken quilt in the coop for a while so I can
get busy on my B&W "Road to Freedom" also a Patrice design.

kathy 06-27-2007 04:08 AM

I want to know how it's quilted, I know it's in the ditch but is it all the ditches or just some of them?

patricej 06-27-2007 04:29 AM

all of them except along the seams that connect the Quilted As You Go blocks to each other. i guess i should have, just to be consistent, but didn't want to mess with the extra bulk at those seams. you can't tell the difference.

Carla P 06-27-2007 04:38 AM

I'd say pick out 2 to 4 of the blocks & make another with just those blocks, then submit it to Quick Quilts. This version could be submitted to any of the others such as Fons & Porter, McCall's Quilting, and American Patchwork & Quilting.

kathy 06-27-2007 05:13 AM

I forgot that it was QAYG, i was thinking what a pain all those little ditches would have been, but as QAYG it probably wasn't bad.

quiltmaker101 06-27-2007 07:42 AM

It looks great, Patrice! Like jelly beans!

Your friend is very lucky. I am sure she'll love it.

sewmuch 06-27-2007 08:03 AM
