We finally got my design wall up today. Now my studio is complete!
Here is what we did... I bought two 4'x8' x1/2" pieces of insulation. Lowes has a wonderful spray adhesive, (similar to what you find in the quilt stores) and two 90x108 of Warm and Natural batting. We sprayed the insulation and one side of the batt and placed the batting on. Made sure to do this outside because of the fumes. To hang on the wall, we used corner round molding and attached with screws. It really framed it nicely. In the middle, we placed a few Command strips on the back of the board and the wall so the board wouldn't pull away from the wall. I love it!!!
Maybe now some of those UFO's will get finished.

Wow. I have quilters envy. :O

Maride 05-02-2010 03:24 PM

And you have a Kool Kaleidoscope on the wall. How nice!!

hcarpanini 05-02-2010 03:26 PM

Somehow this Kaleidoscope needs to turn into a queen size quilt. Maybe if I stare at it long enough it will happen!

SUPER.. my design wall is coming... I am just about fed up with the mess in the quilt room....

GOOD LUCK on that turning into a queen... maybe your design wall has magical powers.. KIK

Great wall! Thanks for the instructions. On my way to Lowe's in the morning.

JanetM 05-02-2010 06:56 PM

I really like your design wall, and your quilt even more. I think I need to rearrange my sewing room so I can make a design wall. It sure would be better than climbing all around the floor

hcarpanini 05-03-2010 06:05 AM

You too can make this quilt! It is Ricky Tims Kool Kaleidoscope. Since you draft the pattern on freezer paper, each pattern is unique!

Bevanger 05-03-2010 08:20 AM

sew way cool. i love the quilt too

Pam 05-03-2010 01:34 PM

Great design wall and beautiful quilt. The only big, blank wall I have is in my stairwell. I wonder what my DH would say if ...

katei 05-04-2010 01:24 PM

pollyjvan9 05-04-2010 02:13 PM

LOVE THAT QUILT! The design wall is great also.

hokieappmom 05-05-2010 08:41 AM

What are command strips? Is that something like velcro?

Oklahoma Suzie 05-05-2010 09:20 AM

nice

virtualbernie 05-05-2010 10:02 AM

Command strips are the tape on the back of the hooks that you can attach to your walls. They are really strong but easy to remove and don't damage the walls.

wvdek 05-21-2010 05:47 PM

Great idea. Wish I had wall enough to do that size.

saf45 05-21-2010 06:17 PM

wow super wall, awesome quilt on the super wall

irma tapia 06-02-2010 12:39 PM

Why did you use the insulation?? How does that help?

hcarpanini 06-02-2010 01:59 PM

The insulation is really easy to pin through if you need to. It is thick so the pins go in far enough to hold.

ann clare 06-02-2010 02:01 PM

Both are beautiful. Design wall tried and tested.
