Diane007 02-08-2015 10:24 AM

wow what a lot of work... very nice

SueSew 02-08-2015 10:29 AM

How did you ever choose the fabrics?
Did you buy the package with the paper pieces and templates or are you going from scratch?
Love love love your fabrics and creative fussy-cuts!
How long do you think it will take you to finish?

Tartan 02-08-2015 10:31 AM

Wonderful blocks! Can't wait to see it together!

QUILTNMO 02-08-2015 10:32 AM

wow going to be gorgeous!!

ube quilting 02-08-2015 10:40 AM

Superb and stunning. Please tell us all about it. Is it a kit, your own fabric and using a fussy cut technique? I just finished a fussy cut hexie quilt. It is much simpler than yours but great fun to do. I really appreciate what you are doing.
peace

I am trying to use stash in colors that remind me of a Mallard or pheasant, Audubon colors, I guess. The pattern is in the book Millefiori Quilts by Hammerstein which I bought from Paper Pieces along with the starter pack of papers which I think will last because I remove them as I go. The picture is about 2 1/2 weeks of work so I am guessing about 14 weeks for the whole shebang. Most of the people making this if you google used really bright colors but I am trying to be more restrained :)

Wow, gorgeous

Wow! That's a lot of pieces.

Hartllk 02-08-2015 02:43 PM

My daughter is working on one of those. You two have more "intestinal fortitude" than I do!

Let your daughter know that there is a Facebook group dedicated to a group of people making this, if that may be of interest to hr. Fun to see different ideas!

coopah 02-08-2015 03:43 PM

Stunning so far...keep us posted, please. Wonderful work!

jeanne49 02-08-2015 05:05 PM

Beautiful - love EPP but I only have hexagons. I want to do blocks like yours but I just don't seem to have enough money after the bills to place an order with Paper Pieces. But one of these months I will gather enough to get the diamonds, elongated hexie and other paper pieces.

Evelynquilts 02-08-2015 05:13 PM

@Susan7639
If you don't mind me asking, could you describe how you chose the fabrics? This is a project I'd love to tackle, but the fabric choosing part of it really intimidates me!

QM 02-08-2015 08:54 PM

Absolutley beautiful!!! If anything ever tempts me to do hand sewing this will for sure. I agree w/ others who have posted, I would be very interested in seeing your fabrics before selective cutting, and how you decide on fabrics to use

great fabric choices. Mine will go under the quilting needle in a few days. Amazing quilt pattern isn't it?

Kassaundra, I'm not good at putting fabrics together, so I bought a panel featuring a peacock and used the color dots from the selvage to find the fabric colors. This is the first quilt I've purchased fabric for since October 2001. It was kind of weird doing so :)

LindaMRB 02-09-2015 08:05 AM

These fabrics are very interesting - and the pattern ? This has to be paper-pieced, right (EPP)? Can't wait to see the finished project with 3000 pieces OMG!

Chino Chic 02-09-2015 12:04 PM

These are beautiful.

Thanks for the picture. I think the look of this style is stunning. I doubt I'd do a whole quilt, but a few wall hangings as framed art may be in my future.

I find symmetrical patterns of medium scale get lots of use. You can see the purple damask pattern used 5 times in just these rosettes. I especially love how it looks in the outter border of the lower left wheel. I also think it is easier to mix fabrics that have only one or two colors and to keep the wheels limited to a few colors ie purple black and green. I have been throwing in lots of funky green because I love it and think it works with purple. Hope this helps.

Trapunta 02-09-2015 05:52 PM

Your quilt will be fabulous! Can't wait to see photos of it when you finish.

craftyone27 02-09-2015 07:05 PM

Susan, Your hexies are so subtle and beautiful - I just love your colors and patterns. Are you doing the New Hexagon book Quiltalong or are you using the Millefiori book by Willynne Hammerstein?
