New project while recouperating from surgery

1 Attachment(s)
At the young age of 48 I have to have a full hystorectomy because I have a 7mm mass on one of my ovaries... So with that said I decided to get together some hand sewing together for while I am bed bound to work on. I have always wanted to do the Sunbonnet Sue quilt and since I now have a 1 year old granddaughter I am going to make her one.

Sorry I could only get one picture to upload, there are six squares in all.

Beautiful block! Hope you feel better soon. I was 42 when I had my hysterectomy. I have done well after recovering from the surgery.

Wishing you a speedy recovery. They are right about getting up and walking. Less chance of getting blood clots and you do not want to ever have a blood clot if you can help it. Love your Sun Bonnet Sue. How many are you planning on makeing for granddaughter's quilt?

I love Sunbonnet Sue and yours is adorable. I had my hysterectomy done at 23 for ovarian cancer, and my daughter had hers done last week at 34. Live goes on. Be kind to yourself and don't forget those daily walks...the first few steps are the hardest. Wishing you a speedy recovery.

I had my hysterectomy in August. It was a full hysterectomy becauseit included the ovaries. I spent one night in the hospital and came home the next day. My OB did it robotically! I have five 1" scars on my tummy in the shape of a frown. I was on pain medication for 3 days and back to work in a week and a half. I was amazed at the recovery. I feel great - no complications. You should ask about robot surgery. It was done with the DaVinci robot. There is a website. I read all about it.
I hope yours goes as well as mine did. Good luck and God bless.

Good job, relax and take time to heal, everyone needs to be treated like a queen after they have surgery

blonde_007 01-30-2012 09:34 AM

WOW! I am amazed at how young alot of you are that have already had this surgery. Thank you for your words of encouragement and your advice I will definately use it.

For those who asked I am doing six SB blocks with different dress colors. I have not decided whether to make squares to border the blocks or strips. The frame fabric will be the same as the dress. That is about as far as I have gotten on the design.

Scraps 01-30-2012 09:38 AM

Nice project! Healthy recovery!!

kat112000 01-30-2012 09:43 AM

Good luck and good thing you have hand sewing to do!
I was 34 and had a very large incision across my abdomen. I thought I would be able to sew no problems, HA, boy was I wrong!!! I didn't have any hand sewing to do and about drove myself crazy thinking of all the things I could be doing with 6 weeks off of work!!!!

char634w 01-30-2012 11:09 AM

I wish you a speedy recovery and you will feel better working on that precious quilt. I did mine at 52 and it was the best thing I ever did. Hallelujah, no more monthly stuff to deal with - oh how great !!!! Your little gran daughter will love her quilt. Thank you for sharing and enjoy your quilting time recuperating.

nannyrick 01-30-2012 11:23 AM

The ladies are right get up and walk a little you don't want clots believe me. I was going to make my GD a Sunbonnet Sue when she was little & never did now she's 18 & probably doesn't want one so do it. Get well too.

glorcour 01-31-2012 06:56 AM

Hope you feel better real soon. Love the sun bonnet sue, any little girl would love them.

amizjeanne 01-31-2012 07:34 AM

I had that when I was 46, was treated prior to surgery - was 30 years ago this month. Keep trying to walk a little each day around the house and you will soon be as good as new.

skowron5 01-31-2012 07:40 AM

I had one at 35 many years ago. Something to keep in mind. Take it easy and do what the doctor says. I started feeling better and started doing too much and it extended my recovery time. Just be patient and take it slow.

jgriinke 01-31-2012 07:41 AM

Those blocks will be good for your recovery time. Take it easy, but not too easy. The worst part of the surgery is over for you. I had mine many years ago, and wouldn't go back for anything.

Mariposa 01-31-2012 07:42 AM

Praying for a quick and complete recovery for you. Your SS block is cute~

marla 01-31-2012 11:01 AM

Love you Suebonnet. Best wishes for a speedy recovery. What a blessing that they were able to find the mass on your ovaries. I hear it is hard to detect problems in that area.

finchelover 01-31-2012 12:10 PM

My daughter had hers last week...the
