New Selvedge Projects

4 Attachment(s)
I haven't posted in a long while but have been super busy sewing over the winter months. Now that it's spring and the sun is shining brightly through my dining room window, the sewing machine definitely cranked up a gear LOL.

I am still (and will for a long time) loving working with selvedges (selvages) and the first pic is my latest quilt in progress. I have 5 rows done and will choose a sashing and join it all together this week.

The second photo is my latest in my 'children playing series' of selvedge wallhangings. This is now fused ready to be quilted.

In between, I am madly working on making and decorating 160 aprons for an International Women's Day event in March next year. I have about 70 done so far.

Thanks for looking.

Those selvage kids are cute. And I love the work on the aprons

Lynn you just amaze me..I really like the snowballs in the first picture.

LOL at selvages...quilt friends give me odds and ends of fabrics. One in particular gave me some selvages. I have used some, but this summer I made a "quilter's basket" full of goodies to be in a silent auction for a 4-H fundraiser. I put in a bunch of selvages and a pattern to use them. Wouldn't you know this friend purchased the basket...then this fall she's smiling (or smirking) as she hands me back the selvages...I've already made her a selvage chicken...need to make something else just for her out of those selvages don't you think?

Still love the feel of that wool doll quilt you swapped with me...

Very creative. I'm saving my selvages. For want I don't know.

I LIKE WHAT YOU DID WITH THE SELVEDGES. Sorry didn't know cap locks on!

fivepaws 09-24-2015 05:50 AM

Love the panda. I never think to selvage selvages. I have seen this idea but somehow when it comes time to cut my pieces, out go the selvages into the trash. Oops!

Diane007 09-24-2015 06:16 AM

very nice ... love the selvage girl

QUILTNMO 09-24-2015 08:31 AM

All your projects are brilliant. Like the cute little panda and the aprons are great. Was keeping all my selfedges but didn't know what to use them for. You've given me an idea!

tammyg 09-24-2015 12:06 PM

Very nice...... thanks for sharing...

Cam's gram 09-24-2015 01:26 PM

Great selvedge work & aprons but love the Panda the best. When I started to read your post and you're talking about winter months and how spring is here, I immediately look at the posting date thinking it's an old post - not that poster is in the southern hemisphere! Catches me every time!

Hahaha oksewglad, yes you will now have to use those selvedges to make a little item.

Some of my swap quilts have just had another little hanging in our local gallery. I love showing them off.

The majority of the aprons will be handed to each individual lady who comes to the IWD morning tea as a gift. We will also have some aprons that will be for sale. They are so much fun to do and I might just keep on making some to sell myself.

sustraley 09-24-2015 03:10 PM

WOW. You have been very busy. Very nice.

beaqltr 09-24-2015 05:53 PM

I did the same thing. I checked the date, then saw where you were from. haha

Mariposa 09-24-2015 07:25 PM

Cute projects! You've been really busy!

ScubaK 09-24-2015 08:36 PM

coopah 09-25-2015 04:42 AM

Love all the work you are doing, but especially the girls. I have been collecting selvedges for a couple of years...your ideas are inspiring! Have fun with the aprons...they look great and you're about 1/2 way to your goal. YAY!

illinois 09-25-2015 04:58 AM

The kids playing--makes me think of the big box of bias tapes that I'm never going to use some of the colors. Has anyone ever used those to create something. The seam line is already pressed into that! Could be put on foundation and QAYG???

grammasharon 09-25-2015 05:27 AM

Your talent amazes me! I can only wish!

annette1952 09-25-2015 06:57 AM

Very creative! Great job !

JanieH 09-25-2015 07:33 AM

Love all your projects! The selvage children are especially great!

I saw a similar project done on Pinterest with the silhouette of a cat. I have been taking pictures of my two "girls" and want to try my hand at it. I hope I do even half as good as you have.

feline fanatic 09-25-2015 08:01 AM

Wow those are all great. The selvedge projects AND the aprons. I can't imagine having to make so many though. You are very dedicated!

nananurse 09-25-2015 01:33 PM

Wow you've been busy! Love the wall hangings! The selvage quilt is so fun. Never thought of doing that for a block!. The aprons are so pretty!

ccthomas 09-25-2015 05:50 PM

Nice selvedge projects.

BETTY62 09-25-2015 06:21 PM

I also had to look at the date. Thought this was a really old post, LOL

Lynnie25 09-25-2015 11:22 PM

I am hit and miss taking pics of my quilting progress and even more lax in getting them off the camera and onto the computer LOL And I have been so busy sewing most days that I don't have time to 'socialise' with my quilting friends online....

And then I have to fit in coffee with friends, lunch with friends, hubby time, exercise (my 60th birthday pressie was a Fitbit Flex to encourage walking)...how on earth did I ever find time to work !!!

Thank you all for the encouraging comments about my selvedge quilt and the aprons. I will promise to post more pics of both and other selvedge quilts real soon....hehehehe

earthwalker 09-26-2015 12:47 AM

Love your work Lynnie....your aprons are amazing and the children are beautifully designed. You will find the Fitbit very useful.....it can enslave you though, sometimes if I only have 100 steps to hit the 10,0000, I run up and down stairs/garden paths 'til I get that band vibrating:).

redquilter 09-26-2015 04:39 AM

The selvedge work is wonderful! That's a lot of aprons to do. You're off to a good start.

twinkie 09-26-2015 05:06 AM

I love your aprons. Is it your pattern or a commercial one?
