I just wanted to show everyone my new machine and the stitching it does. I did this on dark fabrics so it is more visible.

I was gifted this beauty today from another quilter, coworker who knows I love anything vintage. Oh, what fun I am going to have with this little chain stitch piecer from 1953 and never used. I have a glass display box where she will live when I am not playing with her.

Meet Mary Louise

peace and love to everyone.

I named her after the sweet friend that gave her to me, a true and adventurous hippie, not unlike myself. :D

I had the suspicion that was where the name came from ... unless by chance it had been the name of the original owner. Enjoy your new machine!

Jingle 12-06-2018 04:02 PM

You are so lucky to have a friend willing to part with that beautiful machine.

JJBlaine 12-06-2018 11:18 PM

What an amazing gift! You are so lucky to have such a thoughtful friend!

quilterpurpledog 12-07-2018 04:01 AM

What a wonderful, wonderful treasure! Such a generous gift. Wow. Do enjoy your new machine.

toverly 12-07-2018 04:42 AM

Oh, what fun! That's the kind of new machine that I love. Enjoy your new treasure. The toy machines are like potato chips, one is never enough.

luvstoquilt 12-07-2018 06:28 AM

I am so happy for you but I need to warn you those are addictive! I got one several years ago and now have 8. I especially love the ones that still have boxes and instruction books. My collection started with old graphics on sewing items. I love old needle packages and that started this whole thing. My family thinks I am nuts but what did they expect? I still have my Brownie pin and skate key!

SusieQOH 12-07-2018 07:03 AM

That is an awesome machine!!! I would display it too.
What nice stitching!

jmoore 12-07-2018 10:45 AM

What a thoughtful friend and outstanding gift...she surely knows you well. Congratulations.

ccthomas 12-07-2018 05:45 PM

Mary Louise is special.

Rejoyce 12-07-2018 06:06 PM

Oh my...I have a Singer chain stitch machine just like that. It was a gift from my mom and dad when my sister and I were young. Mine came in a sturdy little suitcase.

Do you still use it or how long has it been since you used it? and a suitcase too! What fun it is. One of the coolest things is if you need to unsew, brrrrrrrrrrrip, no seam ripper needed! LOL

Can you share a picture or two, please?

A1penny 12-08-2018 05:13 AM

What a treasure, you are a very lucky person to have a friend that would give you that. Use it often!

time2quilt 12-08-2018 08:56 AM

WOW, what a gift-!

Fizzle 12-08-2018 09:20 AM

That is adorable! Is it clamped to the counter? Congratulations!!!

momsbusy 12-08-2018 09:28 AM

What an adorable machine!

maryb119 12-08-2018 09:56 AM

It's beautiful!! I have a hand crank sewing machine that I received for Christmas when I was in 3rd grade. It doesn't sew any more but I wouldn't part with it.

Rhonda Lee 12-08-2018 02:50 PM

Oh, I want one.

The machine comes with a clamp and there is a perfect little spot on the base that is made for it to fit in.

Aurora 12-08-2018 10:53 PM

I still have the one I received one year for Christmas in the 50's as well. Mine also came with a case. The inside of the case is such that there is a place to clamp the machine in place so you have a small level surface for sewing. Mine goes under my tree every Christmas.

MarionsQuilts 12-10-2018 11:27 AM

OMG!!! She's so tiny! What a great gift!
