New sewing machine table.

I must brag on my husband here. I asked if he could make me a sewing table with my machine inset flush with the table. I have been getting some quilts finished up over the last several months and it has been a struggle FMQing because the quilts keep getting caught on the corners of the extension table of my machine. Well...he found a dining table on Craig’s List that we went to see. It was about a foot wider than my current table from Ikea but the same length. It had been painted something awful and sloppily done. Pete took the whole table apart, stripped it, made the modifications needed and repainted it. Put a plexiglass insert around the machine. Love using it. Can’t wait to use it for FMQ.

Wow! He deserves the praise. Nice job.

You have a wonderful husband :) Congratulations on your beautiful, custom sewing table - I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

My hubby and I found a similar table on craigslist and he modified it to fit my Juki, very similar to how yours is, and I love it! I see you've got a similar slick surface too  Great for gliding the quilts across the table.

Enjoy!

Christine

That is very clever!!

Take extra good care of that man. Mine ran off with an elderly widowed grandmother we met in Sunday School. She thought he had money and he thought she had money and I ended up alone with all the property and bills.

Don't shed any tears. It was the best thing that ever happened to me.

Your table looks great, good job by your husband. It looks like you are hard at work on Bonnie Hunter's new mystery. Plus I see you have some nice antique crocheted pot holders displayed. Nice area to work in.

Very nice. My husband has been making shelves for his garage but I know I'd never get him to built me a sewing table. Good for your husband.

Ariannaquilts 11-26-2018 10:42 AM

Amazing table although I would love to have it in my dining room I'm very happy for you to be able to FMQ on it. I have been looking for a similar table for ages and the only time I see them is after they have been repurposed!

Superb, it looks like a high end stone top

Macybaby 11-27-2018 06:47 AM

Very nice! I keep hinting to my husband how much I'd love an inset table for my machines.

DJ 11-27-2018 07:10 AM

Your DH is talented in the same way mine is. How wonderful of him to take the time to get you set up so nicely.

AlvaStitcher 11-27-2018 07:46 AM

Thanks for the comments. I will share with him. He is a keeper for sure. 41 years so far and looking forward to many more. He is very creative and crafty. Has a handyman business that he started after retiring as a minister for a lot of years. Gonna hold on to him for sure.

jmoore 11-27-2018 07:52 AM

What a handy guy...and what a fabulous job he did on your sewing table. I’m sure he was happy to have a fun project. My DH gets bored easily and while he’s not handy with woodworking, he does need projects to keep him entertained.

JuneBillie 11-27-2018 06:53 PM

It looks so nice, and you will have lots of fun with your machine on this table.

Grandma Peg 11-27-2018 09:07 PM

Great table and you will love it for FMQ. Enjoy.

lindaschipper 11-28-2018 04:48 AM

I have a very similar table, but with dark green legs.....purchased at a second hand store. The job your husband did to install the machine is so much better than the one mine did. With the table being OAK it was hard to cut through and several swear words were said.....he left it with a jagged rough edge and my machine just barely fits inside. Give your husband a big hug from all the women on this site....not all husbands have the patience to do the percise job that yours has done!! He's a keeper!

Karamarie 11-28-2018 05:04 AM

You have a Santa Claus there. Hang on to him.

Mary Christine 11-28-2018 06:23 AM

He did a great job! I'd say he's a keeper!

Jo Anne B. 11-28-2018 06:46 AM

I have been pining for my DH to do this for me for me for just a few yrs. Kudos to your DH!

homecaregiver 11-28-2018 06:48 AM

Nice job. Table looks great.

ArtsyOne 11-28-2018 08:15 AM

A man who is handy is worth his weight in gold! Your table gives you such an expansive surface and I love the glossy finish - great job by him and great gift for you.

Taughtby Grandma 11-28-2018 08:57 AM

What a keeper! Hubby and the table, nice job!

madamekelly 11-28-2018 10:00 AM

I have the same exact table as my cutting table. Can borrow your hubby for his carpenter skills? Lol. My DH has no skill with tools. I used to do my own, but life has caught up to me. Enjoy your wonderful new sewing table and your talented DH.

llong0233 11-28-2018 10:59 AM

I know you both appreciate the talent and skills of your husbands, but let me add to that. Some of us are married to what could kindly be referred to as, sarcastically, "Mr. Tool". My husband comes from a long line of intelligent men who can, maybe and on a good day, remove a screw from something. There's no putting in a screw, though. In fact his deceased cousin, a West Point graduate and professor of math at West Point, was affectionately known as "Mr. Goodwrench". The fact that you have spouses who can do what your men do, is amazing to me. Enjoy your good fortune and your good men!

Lv2FMQ 11-28-2018 11:11 AM

Fabulous table and fantastic hubby!

bibi 11-28-2018 11:18 AM

What a keeper. Looks wonderful. I've enjoyed having my machine flush with the table. I'm certain you will too.
