New Technique: Pastel over FMQ on Art Quilt
1 Attachment(s)
Come see the effect of pastels over FMQ. I made this quilt in 2007. The flower petals were not quilted. The quilt looked very flat. The flower centers did not have the stamen, and other details. I added all of those and was surprised the most at what the addition of oil pastel to the FMQ did. After finishing, I let it air dry and then ironed with a white cloth over the top. They will not be washed, so that is not a concern. The picture below is just a sample. Thanks for looking.

Love art quilts and you definitely put the pizzaz in this one!
What an amazing difference! Never hurts to experiment, does it?
Terrific! Love the way the flowers turned out!
Very realistic with a 3-D effect. Using oil pastels makes your work just pop. Love the white you added for the light effect.
you are quite the artist, beautiful
I love your technique, it is beautiful. I have been wanting to try oil pastels on fabric, but so little time to try new things.
Stunning work!

What a great technique.

How interesting as I am now in the process of quilting a poppy wall hanging from Edyta Sitar and I do have the seed pods in the centers and intend to sew black stamens in and put black seed beads on the ends. Barely got started yesterday, only got about six petals stitched down. I didn't totally like the color of green that I used on most of the buds, so I took crayon to them. Still have to heat blot them.
Beautiful! Like your accents with the pastels.
Wow! Pastels make those roses pop.
Very, very nice. Thanks for sharing.

It looks wonderful. The oil pastels take a long time to really really dry. Time will cure them. The flowers look wonderful and the addition of your pastels made them dimensional. I love using them. It is fun.
outstanding job!

Very nice work!!
It does look great!!
Turned them into a work of art!
Whatever you did really makes the flowers pop. I'm not sure what oil pastels are. Are they just oil paint like you would use on canvas? Or special paints you would just use on fabric. Did you paint them after the flowers were quilted? Or before? Again lovely work!
Very pretty....the extra quilting sure did make a difference.....
Very pretty!!
