Can hardly wait to show this to grand daughter. We are making totes for a Christmas craft booth that she has been invited to join. She is 15 and has autism. If she can show that she is able to market her sewing/quilting crafts, there is an agency which will furnish the school with the tools necessary for her to work AND hire someone, perhaps me, to teach her. The colors in you bag are so very "cool". I love to wear solid colors and carry a splashey bag and/or shoes.

sandpat 06-07-2009 04:58 AM

Great bag! I sooo envy you all that can just "whip" up one of these! Great fabric choices....ohhhh...so much fun! Enjoy the brunch!

pawquilts 06-07-2009 05:19 AM

I love your tote! Now, get back to quilting.....just kidding, hahaha! The tote is a great size (and color!) for any type of "cargo", even fabric!

Great tote!

quiltnut4ever 06-07-2009 12:55 PM

Very nice. I have many patterns to make totes but am apprehensive for some reason. Are these quick and easy to make?

BellaBoo 06-07-2009 01:19 PM

I'm finding I like the new designer fabric much better than the dark prints, marbly, tone on tone or batiks. The new fabrics and colors seem so fresh.

Karenmay 06-07-2009 01:42 PM

That is so pretty! You've just got me motivated again!...I just havent been able to get myself into sewing for several weeks...I dont really know why,but I think tomorrow I may make a start on a couple of totes!....wish me luck!

good luck!

kluedesigns 06-07-2009 02:38 PM

totes are super easy to make.

its kinda like making a pillow case but it has straps.

this one - i just took some scraps from the bin and sewed them together.

then i fussy cut the shape i wanted. it started as a 15 inch square and then i cut a small angle into it so the bottom was smaller.

then you sew the fabric right side together just like a pillow case. make 2 of these 1 is the outside of the tote and the other is the inside of the tote (i used solid sage green).

then square the bottom - i like to square my bags at about 4-5 inches across so a checkbook size wallet and sit nicely in the bottom.

then turn the hem for the tops at 1/2 inch, put the lining inside the outside part of the tote, pin in the straps and pin the tote all across the top and topstitch across the entire tote.

Mousie 06-07-2009 02:40 PM

wow, klue, I'm such a tote lover. Yours is way cute. love the fabric. :D

kluedesigns 06-07-2009 02:42 PM

for tote bags i've always preferred the designer fabrics and Amy Butler is great for making bags because she typically puts a stripe or some sort of dot fabric in each new line she come out with.

for quilting i prefer batiks, ombre, gradations - i pretty much avoid all novelty fabrics in my quilts - unless its for a child. i am a sucker for paula nadlestern fabric though.

my stash is separated in the closet - one section is my quilting fabric and one section is my handbag fabric.

bearpaw 06-07-2009 03:10 PM

Very nice, the fabrics are great!

b.zang 06-07-2009 03:17 PM

great bag!

Ellis' Granny B 06-11-2009 07:14 AM

Klue,

Your beautiful bag has inspired me to give a try. I did not hva a pattern, just used my imagination. The center to the ruffled flower was a lone earring that I had been keeping for some reason for years. Thanks for the inspiration.

Fellow QUilters, You constantly inspire and challenge. Here is my first attempt at a strip quilt. Also, I was truly blessed by a friend who bought me a wonderful quilting frame at the thrift store for $3. I will try to hand quilt this strip quilt on the frame.
