I've just finished my latest quilt! The size of the quilt is 40"x50". As a batting I've used a bamboo/cotton blend and it's quilted by hand.

DH just walked by and asked why my mouth was hanging open; I showed him your quilt and he understood my feeling. I am in awe-just beautiful. Please keep posting pics-I am inspired to try harder and continue hand quilting.

Once again a beautiful , beautiful piece of work.

Andrea, as with all your quilts that you have shown us, this is simply stunning. How did you find the bamboo cotton batting? Was it easy to needle and are you satisfied with the end result? Would you use it again?

daisey 07-20-2010 04:40 AM

CarrieAnne 07-20-2010 04:42 AM

Someday I hope to do a whole cloth- what inspiration you are.

wesing 07-20-2010 04:46 AM

Andrea -

Your quilt is beautiful, and the sapphire blue really sets off your stitches. It's mind-boggling that you can make such tiny, precise stitches by hand. You've done great job.

My DH and I own a little online shop with hand quilting supplies here in Germany and our wholesaler just completed his assortment with the bamboo and a soy brand. It's sold by Pellon and the brand is called Legacy.
The batting needles easy, almost like a thin cotton batting and the look is also very similar, quite flat. But I like it that way! The batting is very fluffy and soft and it's wonderful to touch - but I think it's better not to use with dark fabrics. It's not bearding - but the fibres of the outer edges which are not covered by the fabric are distributed over the whole quilt. They are easy to brush of after finishing the quilt.
I would use it again - but only with light colored fabrics.

For this quilt I used the method of needle marking (I "scratch" the pattern with a darning needle on the fabric)- but that only works for light up to medium light colored fabric. If the color is darker than that blue you can't see the needle marks. For darker fabrics I use watercolor pencil.

franie 07-20-2010 09:02 AM

Oh my Gosh so beautiful! Look at that perfect stitching.

nativetexan 07-20-2010 09:02 AM
