Thanks all for your kind words... I think the tumbling block pattern is one my favorites..

I was seriously thinking about doing it queen size it but I have changed my mind... I want it for in the living room to use as a throw.. So the finished size will be 60x80 inches..

Celeste 12-29-2007 11:15 PM

OOh! Very pretty!

barnbum 12-30-2007 05:09 AM

Wow! I just want to stack them up and keep playing. :D What an amazing pattern.
Are there inset seams and scary stuff like that?

Knot Sew 12-30-2007 05:35 AM

Really beautiful. Isn't that a very difficult pattern? You are doing great. :D

Diamonds 12-30-2007 08:31 AM

I have to admit to everyone the way I do my blocks makes it easy.. No problems with seams and it sews fast... I do not go by directions found in any book...

I just lay three diamonds on their side and use the play on colors to make the blocks.. If anyone is seriously interested I can take a pic of the steps... It is really easy to do...

This a one great quilt. I have always wanted to do this pattern but it seems like it would be difficult. Hope you will be able to give us the directions. Thanks for posting the quilt.

First step is to cut out diamonds... Use the diamond templete and I make it the full size of the templete...

Material need is---one very light
one as a medium
one dark

Easy hint... I cut 4 inch strips.. I place the diamond on stip.. Cut the first part of the "tail" off it so my diamond lines up... I move the diamond down the the strip and use my rotary as I go.. I am sure someone here may have an even better idea but that is they way I do it..

The next step is to sew the diamonds... Medium on left and dark on right as placed in the pic below.. I sew those two together first and then I sew the light on....

Sorry I do not have the best camera in the world so the pic is not as good as I hoped... The way I press it goes against all logic... I make it so it is pressed but I fan the seam "out" before pressing the center.. For some reason it is the only way I have found where it does not have a "bunched" up feeling...

I start sewing I just keep adding the blockes but the placement is like this..

The sides of the quilt will look like this after you have done several rows...

Diamonds 01-01-2008 10:22 AM

1 Attachment(s)
For the side you have to save some blocks... The medium with half of a diamond of the light will go on the right side of the quilt and a dark with half of a light diamond will go on the left.. It fills in the sides to give you a staight area for quilting or to strip piece along the side to make the quilt larger..

All the blocks I am showing are not incorporated into the quilt yet..

Diamonds 01-01-2008 10:27 AM

I will get a couple pics of the quilt that I am working on so you can see the back of it.. Your blocks will be 8.5 inches wide by 9.5 inches from tip to tip in height..

Whatever you do-please ask questions  I have shown peeple how I make them but I have never tried to show someone over the internet... So I could have missed saying something I should have..

Blue Bell 01-01-2008 04:06 PM

Dear Diamonds,

I'm sorry, but I missed where to get the template for the diamond.

I use a 60 degree diamond.. They can be found at Joannes and most fabric shops that sell quilting supplies... They can also be purchased on ebay...

Here is one like mine...
