Nine Patch and Hour Glass

3 Attachment(s)
Christmas 1998 I received the book "Quick and Easy Scrap Quilts" a Leisure Arts book. I immediately fell in love with the quilt on the back cover, which was a table topper made from scraps. 3 1/2 inch ninepatch and 3 1/2 inch hourglass blocks bordered with a vine and flowers. I began my quilt in 1998, piecing a little here and a little there. Had to purchase extra fabric a couple different times, as back in those days I had not made enough quilts to have enough scraps to make a scrap quilt. When I went to purchase fabric, instead of asking for fat quarters, I requested 1/8th yard be cut from the bolt of several different. ( Boy! did I get a strange look from the sales person) But I did not know about fat quarters back then, and I thought if I had longer lenghts of fabrics I could strip piece faster. (but, that is another story of how the sales person and I became great friends). Anyway, a year or so ago I finally finished piecing the top, now a king size instead of a table topper. A month or so ago I got it quilted and last month I put the binding on. Oh no, another story: I could not find enough of the navy border fabric to make the binding so I put on the black binding. The quilt laid out, and I kept looking at it, not liking the black binding. Then while looking for something else I found some navy that might work better then the black, so ripped off the black binding and attached the navy - Much better! I now love my quilt. The label is added and I can enjoy it.

OMG, You have created a real beauty there. Imagine, all the years and all the small blocks, little by little. I hope you are keeping this one for self, as only you can appreciate all the fabrics and all the stitches that went into this gorgeous quilt.

Nice mix of the colors! It is hard for me to have enough of the right colors of scraps when I start a project to have enough of each color.

What a beauty this turned out to be. I am so glad you changed your borders. After all this work, you have got to love it, right?
