Not So Sure
2 Attachment(s)
I've been using material from my stash and made this "Trip Around the World", but as you can see, I ran out of some fabrics and so I'm guessing I should really call it "Trip Around the Town". LOL Anyway, I like how it turned out. In an effort to use more fabric from my stash, I've started to make the backing for the quilt. (See second picture.) It is really so different from the front, I'm not sure I should use it for the backing (or at all). I don't know how I would quilt this if I used this different backing. Any opinions?

One of the nicest 'trips around . . . ' that I've seen.
Your color placement is pleasing, I like the triangles around the squares, and the border is perfect for the fabrics you've chosen. The red, yellow, black and white would be great for another top. I don't think it's very compatible with the trip around top. I like them both - just not so much together. But it is your quilt - and you need to do what you need/want to do. |
That trip is gorgeous! I would not put that back on it though.
Yes, the trip is wonderful! I think the backing is too different from the front though...
I am usually not fond of Trip Around the World...But I love your "scrappy" Trip Around Town. Sorry, I have to agree, I don't think I would use that back on your beautiful quilt. Had the reds been purple I think it would have worked. Oh, well, another quilt, right?
I agree with the others. They're both wonderful but don't really look as if they go together.
Very nice!
I love your top and the colors you used. I like the second one also but would not use it for the backing of the first one.
You have 2 beautiful quilts .Please get each one a back . joyce j

Same here, I would use the back for another quilt and do something more compatible for the Trip Around The Town, great job though.

That is SOOOOO charming, I love it! Not sure the back you've made really goes with the Trip though...
The Trip is great!! But I feel the same as the others, use the "back" somewhere else!
I agree with Joyce. The back you have pieced would be a perfect front!!! I love your trip around town, beautiful colors! I must admit though, I have used some very different backs on my wall quilts for an element of surprise!!!!
I have to agree with the others - I wouldn't use this back on this quilt. I love your Trip Around The Town though - the colors are really nice!
I have to agree, you don't have a front and a back, you have two wonderful fronts - work on some scrappy backings for both of them and let us see what they grow up to be. They are lovely ladies
Really like the first one.. very nice
Two seperate beautiful quilts. I think they would look great if you stitched in the ditch on both of them. They always turn out pretty, especially when the blocks are as pretty as yours.
sassy granny |
Love them both, but not together. You did a wonderful job on both.
Love, love, love the Trip around town. Colors are gorgeous and you would never know it's from scraps. Looks planned. The backing is nice, but I agree with the others - it just doesn't go, but it's your quilt and if you like it, then by all means use it.
That is very pretty!!! I wouldn't use that backing.
Love your trip around town quilt. You did a wonderful job. Thanks for sharing.
I love your colors, like everyone else said. Also, I think you were clever to finish it the way you did.
Love the quilt, but not that backing I don't think. It clashes too bad. How big is the quilt?
Beautiful. You really made me laugh with your name "trip around town." I love it!!! As far as comments you've received on the back piece -- it's your quilt, and you can certainly use it. We only see one side at a time when it's on the bed anyway.
Beautiful, I think that "backing" should be another quilt!
I would NOT use the second one for backing but I like it anyway. The trip to wherever is lovely
Beautiful, but not good colors for each other.
I agree - both pretty, but not together. LOVE the TATW top!
Your scrappy trip has lots of interest and so beautifully done! I agree, the best one I have seen so far!
I think your quilt turned out wonderfully! I really like all the fabrics and color scheme. I agree with everyone else; I'm not crazy about the second one for the backing, though. I think it would make a wonderful second quilt top.
I agree with some others comments I read: the backer does not fit the front.
Both deserve individual attention! |
Lovely work Deb - isn't it great when you turn an 'problem' into a 'design opportunity' :)
I would (and have) backed quilts with pieced backs just like you've laid out. As one of the other posters said, you only see one side at a time! And there are some pretty nice books out there with 'reversible' quilts. It's your quilt, you get to decide! One of the things you'll need to be careful of if you do use this - and if you do stitch in the ditch (or other designs that follow the lines), you'll want to ensure the backing is lined up well with the front so the stitching looks like it belongs with both. Be sure you let us know how you finish it up :) |

I guess this is where my weirdness shows through, but I love the idea of using these two beautiful pieces together.
I agree with most of the others you have two beautiful quilt tops and they both deserve a backing.
That is nice, put some features in it and make it a reversible quilt.
I would make another quilt from the backing & I love your trip around the world
Love the trip around town, don'qt think the second one would make a good back for it but would make another beautiful quilt
If you use the backing it would make the quilt reversible. You may however have trouble deciding on a binding that would work for both the front and back. I would quilt it with an all over pattern.
I think I would agree with it being two different quilts. Both are good scrape eaters but they are really, really different form one another.
