Oh, My! Feeling Surprised and Loved!

Yesterday I wrote this thread, but for some reason, my pictures were turned into attachments after a while. The server automatically deleted the whole thread because of the attachments. QuiltnNan told me to feel free to repost. I hope this works. I'll post the pictures in the next comment box, in case the same thing happens.

Here's what I wrote:

Today, I got a box in the mail. When I first saw the return address, I gasped. "From Rose? She makes beautiful quilts! But I'm not sick. I don't deserve one of her quilts..." Then I opened the box, read her note, and started to cry. It indeed was a quilt--but not just from her. It's from 18 different women, many of whom I've met right here on the QB. I can't thank you enough. Truly a momentthat took my breath away.

The quilt is called FLOTSAM.

Rose reminded me that flotsam refers what is floating after a shipwreck. Oftentimes the survivors will cling to flotsam for support in deep waters. In a figurative sense, our friends become flotsam when we're going through a rough time. She said that she likes to use FLOTSAM as an acronym for F(riends) L(eading) O(thers) T(o) S(ee) A(nother) M(orning). After my mom died in June last year, I certainly felt pounded by the waves of grief, and at times like I would drown in my own tears and sorrow. All the firsts without her were extremely painful.

Rose reached out to other quilters to make a surprise comfort quilt. That quilt arrived yesterday. I was a hot mess all day, just knowing that "complete strangers" would do this for me. My heart can't hold this gratitude. I've never had anyone make a quilt for me, and I've always wondered how it felt to receive one. Now I know. It's an indescribably warm-fuzzy feeling. I've already wrapped it around myself in a hug from all the makers. Thank you, one and all, for your contribution. So generous!

Many thanks to Rose Irish for handquilting it and making blocks, too. ALso thanks to Boston1954, Liz 222, KatznKwiltz, Chester the Bunny, Stitchin' Post, MandyRose,Rhonda,Word Painter, Challys,Anastasia, Jaba, Sheepshed, TuckyQuilter, Sapphire Rose,Plays with Color, and Nelco.

Since the quilt is large and my hubby is tall,
I asked him to hold it up outside while I took pictures. Next post will have the pictures.

So many awesome blocks. I keep studying them and referring to the diagrams of names
to see who made which ones. I just love the colors and all the variety.

And a sweet poem from Rose. By the way, did I mention that Rose handquilted the whole quilt? I'm gobsmacked.

Awww, darn. I don't know what's happening! The pictures are posting just fine for me, but now I see , when going back to view the post, they are showing up again as attachments. Grrr.

Tell ya what, until I figure out what's going wrong, I'm going to post a link to the picture where Rose Irish posted. It's a good shot of the whole thing that will have to suffice until I get satisfaction with my pictures posting here. (I took many close-ups.)
