I thought about using black. I also thought about using all batiks and found the colors easily enough, but couldn't find enough very pale stuff that I liked for the 'white', plus I decided to use "stash". My colors are all white on color, tone on tone, except for one yellow that has teeny flowers in all the other colors so I couldn't resist.

i'm working on this quilt, and to cover my bed i have to make extra squares.. i have used 9-10 different tone on tone creams & all scraps cut into 1 inch strips...

i have found the leaders & enders (learned about those here, thank you, ladies) made a huge difference in getting those little bitty pieces thru the machine.

i only have 37 of the shoo fly blocks & 25 of the double 9 patch... i work on it for a while, put it away, get it back out...

lois @ my lqs said it's good to have a life's work. and all my girls have said this is the quilt they want when i'm gone. i did already get the batik fabric for the borders...

Can't wait to see the black!!

At first the small pieces were difficult to manage, especially the first two rows (of both the color strips and the DNP). Then I "discovered" starch and things went much smoother! So much so that I bought a gallon of MaryEllens (which I dilute!).

butterflywing 02-07-2011 08:21 PM

pretty colors. what is a wiprogress?

DogHouseMom 02-07-2011 08:25 PM

A few asked what the pattern name is. It's "Omigosh" by Susan Garman. And the finished size is 70" X 88" with two 1" and 1 3.5" borders - so it's a good sized quilt.

It's "work in progress". You'll start picking these up on here. I'm making a list of these. Sometimes I have to refer back to it myself. (OBW - on block wonder.....WIP work in progress...S&W - stack & whack...FMQ-free motion quilting...ISO - in search of) You'll get the hang of it.

butterflywing 02-08-2011 08:42 AM

i know what a wip is. i never saw it written like that ( wiProgress).
i thought it was something else.

WIP has always been known as "Work in Process" in my line of work (accounting - specifcally manufacturing inventory), I was trying to stress that it was "Progress" not, process.

cheryl rearick 02-09-2011 12:17 AM

I think it is going to be totally awesome when completed. Looking good.

kittykatz2001 02-09-2011 11:48 AM

the 2000+ pieces sang to me.

Yep, that would be me. Have always liked little pieces in quilts. My first one was "The Blooming Nine Patch" and I have renamed it to "Blooming Idiot" for picking that for my first quilt. But, I sure learned at that time I couldn't sew a straight line. It had around 2300 pieces so by the time I was finished with the top, I was almost sewing a straight line. 5 1/2 later, it is on my longarm to be finished, after I finish organizing my quilt room. Hope to see it when it's done. katie

PunkiePie 02-09-2011 11:50 AM

Ohmigosh....is so right.....bet it will be a beauty

kittykatz2001 02-09-2011 12:11 PM

I should have known it was a Sue Garmen pattern. I subscribe to "The Quilt Show" with Alex Anderson and Ricki Tims and she always does the BOM every year and she seems to like small pieces. I am going to get that pattern. Thanks for letting us know what it is. katie
