I know this really should be "outside" the Vintage and Antique Machine area but if goes there, I will never see it again so... mea culpa.

I mentioned the TOGA event I just went to with Heather and DD in tow and The conversation took off from there. She reminded me that i had been sent some pics of her quilts but back then "you didn't seem to care much" (bad steve...:() I admitted that she was correct (better) and so she kindly sent these to me (shrunk for dial up politeness)

(OH, I almost forgot.. WHY DON'T THEY BELONG HERE??? you ask.... because they are all Hand sewn ....) So forgive a proud son a few bytes of space...

Mitch's mom 02-24-2014 06:23 PM

Your mother is an amazing quilter. All hand sewn. Unbelievable!

Rodney 02-24-2014 07:03 PM

They belong here. Your mother did some very nice work on those.

They all pass the "vintage" / "stand the test of time" test. Beautifully done.

Macybaby 02-24-2014 07:16 PM

yup - can't get any more "true to vintage" than hand sewing! Very beautiful quilts.

Jeanette Frantz 02-24-2014 08:59 PM

Absolutely gorgeous! Every one of them!

Jeanette

Really like the last one with the purple and green logs. I wonder where I could get a pattern or did she make her own?

janiesews 02-25-2014 04:25 AM

Beautiful quilts. They are amazing.

lovelyl 02-25-2014 05:00 AM

Those quilts are beautiful. You can see the love she put into them. Thank you so much for sharing!

DebbieJJ 02-25-2014 05:15 AM

Your mom does GREAT work! Please tell her to join and show us some more of her quilts......

Homespun 02-25-2014 05:26 AM

Beautiful quilts!

nanna-up-north 02-25-2014 05:32 AM

Your mom's quilts are wonderful. The 'old school' quilters are few and far between these days but that's where quilting started..... hand stitching. I bought some hand embroidered blocks that had been made way back. I took the blocks apart and thought they were stitched with a vintage machine but they were hand stitches..... so perfectly stitched. It was amazing. I've never been able to stitch so uniformly that it looks like machine stitching. Hand stitchers are amazing..... Go give your mom a hug and thank her for introducing you to the fun world of quilting. You have a gem there.

Those are, to use a phrase I rarely use: AWESOME! I can sew on buttons really good by hand, but that is the extent of my hand sewing ability. No way in this world could I do what your mom has done.

I'm going to book mark this thread cos it's already been moved and unless I do I'll never find it again.

I second that feeling. Those are amazing quilts.

joyce888 02-25-2014 06:08 AM

Wow they all are gorgeous! Love the green and purple.

oldsewnsew 02-25-2014 06:25 AM

When you say "hand sewn", do you mean that literally? Either way, it's beautiful workmanship! I see where you get some of your attention to detail-ness.

Wanabee Quiltin 02-25-2014 06:31 AM

Love her quilts, she did a great job.

feline fanatic 02-25-2014 06:32 AM

Great quilts. You are misinformed if you think hand pieced and hand quilted quilts don't belong here. The quiltingboard pictures forum is for pictures of ALL quilty type things. Hand pieced, hand quilted, appliqued, embroidered, embellished, tied, machine pieced, or machine quilted and any combination thereof. The forum boasts bed quilts, wall quilts, table toppers, mug rugs, miniatures, quilted hand bags, art quilts WIPS, UFOS, a single block.

Whatever gave you the idea that the forums on this board are only for a specific type of quilting? Maybe you should venture out of the vintage area more often. ;)

tessagin 02-25-2014 06:43 AM

Superb work. Beautifully done. All are stunning. I know a couple little girls that would love that purple and green.

SteveH 02-25-2014 08:20 AM

Thanks everyone, she only started quilting in the late 80's IIRC. I'm sending her an invite to the board today, she says she'll check it out.

I appreciate the clarity, but actually I was aware of that. I posted this under the Vintage and antique MACHINE portion (my haunt) and it was (correctly) moved here. Over there the thread is for "quilts made with vintage and antique machines"... FYI.

GEMRM 02-25-2014 08:23 AM

Really fabulous! She should be proud (after she swats you upside the head for ignoring her work for so long, LOL)

Yes, needle thread, hands...

Basic log cabin with sashing and corner stones, and the ends of the sashing where it meets the corner stone has the HST treatment on the ends. Really easy if you take it step by step!

patsynel 02-25-2014 08:43 AM

Beautiful quilts, I love the green and purple one.

Annz 02-25-2014 08:43 AM

They look great.

Annz 02-25-2014 08:46 AM

They again are grogeous and all by hand that is the best.

SteveH 02-25-2014 09:04 AM

...I'd be happy if I could just CUT fabric that consistently and well....

pw6 02-25-2014 10:16 AM

great I agree, love the purtple and green logs one.. but all are beautiful.. vintage YES, forever YES. you cannot go back for them.
