Old Meets New

We had the cabinet for an old treadle that was in very bad condition, so my DH removed the old cabinet & made a new top out of oak. Isn't it beautiful. I have it sitting in my dining room & we use it during family dinners.

Misty's Mom 02-19-2014 04:12 AM

Very nice.

It is beautiful!

Very, very nice! I've never seen a Singer base like that on.
I have the base to my "Mam Maw's" old Singer treadle. The top has 'bit the dust', so I (it is heavy) took it to a car wash, power washed it & sprayed it black. Now have it in my sewing room with long board on top for cutting & pressing...

I forget which machine was on it because I have a few but isn't it great to be able to re-purpose these "beauties".

Kathy T. 02-19-2014 06:42 AM

You're husband is extremely talented - such a beautiful piece to show now.

QuiltE 02-19-2014 06:44 AM

Nicely done!! That man has many talents!! :)
What a great conversation piece, and functional when you need an extra table for the family dinners. No question about it being solid, that's for sure! :D

When you come south and toodle around .... you'll have to go to Floradale to a little Mennonite lunch spot in the old post office and general store. Not only have they kept much of the old furnishings (including the PO boxes with the names!) but have many treadles as the dining tables. Fun, eh? hhhmmmmm ... come to think of it, there's a golf course right near by to it! :):) (now that should get your attention!)

carslo 02-19-2014 06:56 AM

Wow, nicely done Dh on the table top and I imagine the nice roses!

tessagin 02-19-2014 06:59 AM

That's so pretty. Good choice with the oak. Nothing better.

dcquilter 02-19-2014 07:28 AM

nativetexan 02-19-2014 07:30 AM

I bought one long ago and it's one thing I won't part with. Reminds me of my Mother sewing away at the end of my bed late at night.

Tweety2911 02-19-2014 07:40 AM

Wonderful use for the old treadle base. It looks great and is useful too.

callen 02-19-2014 11:06 AM

Thank you ladies for your kind comments. He did do a wonderful job & I am so proud of it BUT the roses are fake & I bought them myself !!! When I saw them in the store...............well, let's just say I knew they were going home with me because roses are my favourite flower of all time & lots of people that come & visit think that they are real.

Actually, QuiltE, he did buy me some flowers. He said the expensive roses were not very nice but he was able to find a decent bunch finally so he bought them & brought them home. On opening, I had to laugh (a lot) because upon opening the package, they actually were tulips !!! He knows his woodworking but flowers, not so much. LOL
His heart was definitely in the right place though.

Gannyrosie 02-19-2014 06:17 PM

Yes, it is beautiful, he did a fantastic job on re-purposing it.

joyce888 02-19-2014 06:17 PM

Beautiful. Guess I should show mine.

Oh that is such a wonderful "love story" :)
Tell him roses are overrated ... and tulips are such a better sign of spring to come than those roses! :D

Hubby did a great job- it's beautiful.

jerilee 02-20-2014 03:38 PM

I have one with a butcher block top. I use it for everything. Right now it has Geranium cuttings that are potted sitting on it. It's sitting in the dining room next to a bright sunny window. They are so handy and you can move them around pretty easy. Yours is beautiful and more formal looking. love it...............

Debbie B 02-20-2014 04:33 PM

Love it! I have my husband's great grandmother's treadle. It was the one thing my husband asked for after his mom died. But, carrying it up from her basement the cabinet started falling apart. It's a oak parlor cabinet (painted green) & in bad shape. I showed my husband your picture & he thought it looks really nice. So, we'll see...

Country1 02-20-2014 04:46 PM
