Treasures for sure!
|
Wow... this is something. The quilts my grandmother made disintegrate over the years. I would wash it by hand with woolite in the tub and have two people ring the water out of it and hand it on a clothes line. There are some certain kind of boxes you can preserve them in instead just putting them on a shelve.

Awesome!
|
You have a beautiful treasure in those quilts.

As a suggestion ... perhaps put a permanent label on there, so that as it gets passed along the generations the story can be told. Include the names, their birth/death dates and the approx year you think it was made ... and any other family lore related. The hand written note is nice, though pieces of paper fall off and get lost! |
i love that applique quilt. that is so pretty.

How wonderful that you have these beautiful quilts that are a part of your family history. I would personally be afraid to wash anything so special, so precious. You might want to bring them around to the different dry cleaners in your area and compare their methods of stain removal suggestions and prices, and then choose one of them to professionally clean them for you. You definitely should label them with the story. Good luck and thank you for sharing!

Very nice. I would scan the note and put it on fabric. Laminate the origional and keep it safe somewhere. That quilt must be very special.

What treasures! My husband's grandmother and mother had made numerous quilts, and the family lost all of them through a remarriage. So sad, so treasure yours and enjoy them!

Just marvelous |
those are awesome....I have 3 'old" quilt tops from my grandmother that are about 50 yrs old and I really appreciate them...

Beautiful treasures !! :-D

What an honor to have those quilts!
Just think about what our great grandmothers had to do to produce a quilt in the old days. If I had to go to all that trouble without the help of a fancy sewing machine, quarter inch quilting foot, rotary cutters, pre-shrunk batting, disappearing markers, good lighting, etc., I'd probably never even try. Those women really had to work hard just to turn out one quilt. Cherish those quilts girl--they are so special! Thanks for sharing, Mary |
They are just beautiful...if only they could tell us what they have "seen". Some great advice regarding the label (and I would lose the safety pin too). Thank you for taking the time to show us such a precious part of your family history.
|
That is so cool you would take the time to post these for all to see. Thanks!
|
You could laminate the note and paper hole punch it, matching ribbon and anchor it to the quilt along with all the names, dates, deaths, etc. This is a family treasure and the story needs to go with this quilt to the future generations. Thanks for sharing with us.

It would also be nice if you could add a note to the note to say who wrote the original note, aprox. when, and any information, heresay etc. put it in something waterproof and remove the pin....What a tresure....
