These are quilts that my great grand mother made and don't know how old she was my grandmother died when she was 90 so they have to be over a hundred years old. The flower one was made by my husband's great great grandmother it has a note on it telling of how it crossed the
river in a covered wagon. The blue one has stains on it, but I am afraid to wash it as it might fall apart and the stains on the other one is water stains it got crossing the river.. His mother died when she was 85 so it is very old also. This one my hubby's great great grandmother made this one is the one my great grand mother made A close up of the same quilt |
WOW!

That is so neat to have those quilts and that note! Treasure them.

What treasure these are !
Thank you for sharing ! |
How nice to have these treasures.
As a suggestion ... perhaps put a permanent label on there, so that as it gets passed along the generations the story can be told. Include the names, their birth/death dates and the approx year you think it was made ... and any other family lore related. The hand written note is nice, though pieces of paper fall off and get lost! |
What a wonderful story to tell your grandchildren as you wrap them in a this beautiful quilt.

Love the floral - you are lucky to have them.
Oh what treasures. I think you could wash by hand in the bathtub with woolite and it wouldn't hurt it. I think it would last longer if it is cleaned.
wow love the appliqued one... what a treasure!
Oh my gosh, so stunning and to have the hand written note with it? So awesome!! I would caution you to change out the saftey pin every so often though as the metal can break down and rust which you don't want on that lovely quilt. (Ask me how I know :))
Cheers! Rachel |
Oh my gosh, you are doubly blessed. What treasures to have.
What special treasures.
I would be so tempted to buy a quilt display cabinet, hand wash the quilts in woolite, laminate the label and make a permanet label as well for each quilt and lovingly display them in a place of honor in the cabinet. Thanks for sharing and proving how durable fabric is over the years.
Considering how old these are, I am suprised that they have not needed some "Refurbishing" like redoing the binding or some pulled stitches.
Beautiful by the way! |
What great pieces of family history.
wow what a treasure, and the history is awesome....
Beautiful treasures! Thanks for sharing!
If those quilts could talk......
After seeing the longevity of these quilts, I wonder who will be ooohhing and aaahhing the quilts made by all our board members in 100 years!! Quilts are so durable and so filled with love! Yours are precious!
What treasure you have!! I'm so happy for you :D:D
Lovely. Treasures, as the others have all said.
Scan the note, and print it onto fabric & sew it as a label. Add to the information. "A hundred years ago" from when? needs to be more specific so the provenance is not lost as time goes on. |
Those are beautiful quilts.
WOW how special
what treasured of your family history, how lucky you are to be able to appreciate and preserve them for future generations. They're beautiful. Deb
i would make a cloth tag for that last quilt. keep the papper one also as it is. but find a way to sew those words to the quilt and then date it this year. just an idea
Oh, please at least put some date reference on the notes ... and the names of the people involved .... It will help your own children in figuring it all out later ..... What treasures! Thanks for sharing.
