Thank you for showing us the original fabric. I just found out about these OBWs a few days ago and am quite fascinated by them. Any tips on how to choose a good fabric? I find them very pretty and you know your colours are going to match. :D
Look forward to seeing the finished project.

I love the blocks soo pretty, we used to have an African gray, very talkative! Her name was Dixie aka Chickenlips.. When we started traveling, we gave her to a neighbor who rescues large birds and who already had one African gray.

My favorite kind of quilt S&W.

I love the pictures of your one block wonder blocks. I've never considered making those until I saw this post. The one block wonder quilts are very intriguing to me.
I love your quilt inspector! Our DD had a Double Yellowhead when she was growing up. She wanted an African Grey but we couldn't afford it at the time. Hers was such a good bird & fun to interact with.

For me it was the "tackiest" fabric that I could find. The designer is in the thread somewhere. You want bold and brilliant and in my personal opinion kinda of out there. When I first saw it I was mortified LOL So not my type of fabric at all. BUT the key is in the colours and the repeats - once it's all cut up, the options are amazing! Had I not come across the OBW I would never buy this fabric!

Oh, the picture of you and echo has brought back some wonderful memories! Back in the day I taught preschool and had a perm that made my hair frizz instead of curl. Turned out to be a blessing when I would borrow a little green vine snake for visits in my class. It would hide in my hair as I went between buildings. Freaked out my co-teacher when I would sit down with the kids and pull the green snake inch by inch out of my hair. She was not allowed to let the kids know she was bothered by it since I didn’t want them to be spooked. Thanks for the chuckle! Also, I love your blocks! I have a obw planned for my son. Must get started on it soon! Before the fabric disintegrates from old age, lol. Love to Echo. Great name for a parrot!

Question: It looks like you keep your blocks in half so you can sew the rows together better? That's a killer idea, I've used set in seams for the hexes in the past, or added in points so they can be sewn like blocks.

I'm going to be making some OBW blocks soon, I got 4 squares from a panel of "Catitude" with black background and will be doing a departure of my traditional style of quilts with the panel squares and the OBWs, some stripes, and other things in a modern setting. I will be using black background fabrics with metallics and setting it with black (all the better to see cat hair on it!). I can see it in my head and I'm collecting fabrics, but that's as far as I've gotten so far.

Yes, I don't remember where I saw it, but I found it much easier to line them up and sew them together!
