Here's an OBW I just finished for a good friend in the UK who breeds dogs. I FMQ'd it and only my second attempt - far from perfect but I'm happy to send it! Thanks so much to Dunster and Jan who both showed OBWs a while back that inspired my choice of fabric and the idea of leaving a full block of the original fabric. I'm showing some close ups of the detail as well. :D
One Block Woofers - couldn't resist calling it that! |

That is so cute! I never would have thought to try that type of print in such a quilt. Nice job quilting too!

Thanks mamgus and quilt4u! :D These are such fun - I've got fabric to make more - just got other things to finish first, but these are a REAL favourite! :D |
That's so nice. I never really "GOT" the concept of 1 block wonders but they sure turn out beautiful quilts.

You friend is going to love it, looks great!

K3n, I am planning to try one block wonder method and a stack of 6 layers of same printed strips has been sitting in my sewing room for a while. What is the length of the each side of regular triangle you used for a piece?
|
That turned out so cool.
|
Wow, who would have thought that fabric would turn out like that!
|
You did wonderfully on this quilt! I just love the pattern, do you have the link to it?
Thanks :-) |
That quilt is AWESOME!!! you did a great job, your friend will love it. It can be admired far away and up close.

Suzie - as far as I know, there isn't a free pattern available anywhere online but I would recommend the book One Block Wonders by Maxine Rosenthal which explains the technique really clearly. Her second book One Block Wonders Encore also tells how to make the hollow cubes shown in one pf my pics above. It also gives an overview of the technique so I guess you could manage with just the second book but I'd say get both - the first alos describes the octogan method - these are hexagons. |
Thanks Kn3. I really appreciate it, I've bookmarked this for later so I can look on Amazon for the books.

Very cute! I think you could stare at the blocks for days.
|
I love it!! What a perfect quilt for your friend!!! :D

Very funky quilt!!!!!!!! Now that I have a dog of my own I want to make a special quilt for my little girl. Maybe Santa might bring her one!
|
I LOVE your placement of the blocks. And that is a great border fabric. These quilts are so much fun!
Sometimes JoAnns has the first OBW book, so check there if you're looking for it. Great title too! |
That is so cute!!! I love the way the blocks turned out!

I love this quilt. And being a dog lover makes it even more special.
|
Oh for fun! I love the woofers name! I have heard of a quilter using potatoe fabric to make one of these. Yes, I said potatoes. I haven't seen it yet but I bet it is awesome!

AWESOME!!! Good to know she put how to do the cubes in the encore book. Now I will have to get that book. I made cubes in my last one, I sat and played with them until I got what I wanted. I would post a pic but----Long story short--I forgot to take pics before I left it at her business (she was on vacation) and now she hasn't seen it. We live in different states and that was why I left it there.
