I needed to change my presser foot and the needle, and decided it was time to clean the lint out of my vintage Bernina. It always amazes me how much stuff builds up in there! So, now I'm ready for the new presser foot. Opened the box of "spare parts", took one look at that tangled mess and decided this was the day! Wish I'd taken a "before" photo, but I'll bet you can guess what it looked like. I emptied all the bobbins, because what was left from the previous owner. Who knows what it was.
So, here is Betsy's purty box. Now if I only knew what that little black gizmo in the middle is for! :?: the best part is, I found a 1/4" foot, and a one for FMQ I didn't know I had! But I seem to be missing one. Hmmmm... |
that black thing in the middle is called a " thingamajig".... your welcome... hehehhehe
Oh wow, very nice. Giving me some ideas! The parts for my machines are all wee baggies....this is waaaaay better!

It's a screwdriver... I had one like it once. The point goes into the screw head and keeps the driver in place as your using it. Somewhere you have a screw head with a hole in it to accomidate the driver. For some reason I keep thinking the needle area... Just a thought.. :)
Is the 'missing one' on your machine? lol
So organized!!

Special screwdriver for the needle holder. Works very well on my Bernina.
I bet that the black thing in the center of the photo is a needle threader. It looks similar to this one in the link, but doesn't have the metal piece on it. http://www.thecolorfulworldofsewing....-threader.aspx
If there is 4 points on the end with a flat piece of metal that comes out the center than this is what it is. Once you get use to it they are the best invention since sliced bread! |
Oooooohhhh, look at all the pretty feet. Nice job organizing. I don't know what that black thing is but glad you found your darning foot and 1/4 foot.
It changes the light bulb on one side and tightens the needle on the other i have it for my 1080
That black thing is a "kimble Pin" - when my son takes apart anything and there is an item left over. He calls it a kimble Pin (never know when you will need it). LOL Anyway, God Bless You for such organization - I must do this so I can find my 1/4 in. foot: Thanks for sharing.

Where did you get that box? It's brilliant!! :-)
I like that way you labeled the compartments, I think I need to do that, and I would know where the foot I need is at!!!!!
i agree with thingamamig. LOL

Oh, how I wish I had that organized box. Good job. |
WOW! You are so organized!
It looks great! :) |
It is used to tighten the needle. Mine is grey.
It is a screwdriver specifically for your needle. The needle screw has a small hole in it so the screwdriver sets in solid for you to tighten the screw. I loved that little thing when I had my Bernina. I gave it to a friend that sews and her machine had died and could not be fixed. She is a single Mother with children and sews for all of them and her home. She needed it and I had other machines. So it went to a very good home.
For your needle. It's the best little tool since sliced bread. (Sliced bread is a tool??) It works so well; don't let it get lost! (Like I did mine!)
Another idea for a box is to check out all the divided boxes, etc. that are in the fishing equipment stores. That's what I used for all my tools, the one I have has moveable dividers to customize the interior. Also cheaper than the "specialized" ones at Joann's, etc. Just one solution.
That black gizmo is to tighten and loosen the screw that holds you needle in.
I think it's a screwdriver....regular head type (not philips type)...I have the exact same thing for my vintage Bernina, too.
You have motivated me to clean out my foot box.
Now have to find some way to get the lint out huh! |
The black thing in the middle is used to loosen the needle and or change the needle! I have a Bernina just like this with all the feet. And I love it

My friend gave me 2 boxes from craft dept when she moved. Didn't know how I could use them but now I will for feet for my vintage machines although some are rather large like the ruffler.
I use a clear plastic one for a travel jewellry container every winter. Thanks for showing this. |
You are so organized. I use a medium Art Bin craft box from Nancy's Notions but mine does not have the labels for the feet. I have one for each of my sewing machines if they have extra feet. I also create a zipper bag to hold all the other parts for the machines like foot pedal and cords. That way everything is together.
If any of you live near a Container Store, they have lots of neat storage gizmos that can be customized for many purposes. I am not affiliated but I am a satisfied and happy customer. They also have terrific customer service.

Looks very nice

Organization to the UMPH degree.

The "little black thing in the middle" is used for loosening the "needle holder" on my Bernina (it's an "old" 830 Record). It's used on the column that holds the needle... it loosens/tightens the grip around the needle..
Your organization is inspiring!! |
The black thing in the middle is a "whatchamacallit" always has been and always will be called one...   OK, who called the guys in the white coats ??? what's next the quilt police thinking I'm using foul language ??? Gee, I thought I was just being helpful and now I'm just soooo confused. :( :? :-(
If I am not mistaken, that black thing in the middle is a screwdriver.
Oh my, to be that organized......I have mine all thrown in a box and have to finger through things to find what I want. I need to do something about that!!!!!!!
