SandySews 01-28-2013 04:13 AM

No one ever need know.......I would add one or two more in various blocks.. Beautiful!!!!!

QM 01-28-2013 04:31 AM

Something like that is what I would have done....and have. The quilt is charming.

giquilt 01-28-2013 04:34 AM

Look at picture 1st and thought how cute, then read your explanation. With the trail quilting great save!

damaquilts 01-28-2013 05:33 AM

What a wonderful idea. Pretty wallhanging too.

2manyhobbies 01-28-2013 05:34 AM

That's what I did when I poked a whole in a block and didn't want to redo it. I created a petal because there were cornflowers on the quilt and had it 'falling'. The I added some butterflies in other spots that had no holes so anyone looking at the quilt thought that had been the plan in the first place. I don't call them patches. I call them 'charms'.

DebbieG 01-28-2013 05:47 AM

what a beautiful wallhanging, and there are no oopses, only opportunities and that's where a little butterfly needed to be!!

ghquilter53 01-28-2013 05:48 AM

Aren't you clever!!!! If you have more butterflies you might add them as well randomly.

piepatch 01-28-2013 05:49 AM

Clever fix!

dd 01-28-2013 05:57 AM

debcavan 01-28-2013 06:32 AM

That is called a happy accident because that butterfly adds a lot of fun to the quilt.

I agree, hope to learn tatting. Great save on your beautiful quilt.

I used to love tatting, learnt it as a child and was forever being told of at School as I would do it under my desk at classes :) Love your idea, I have used applique on many an occasion to cover a oopsy.

callen 01-28-2013 08:22 AM

What a perfect, creative idea !! Well, they say necessity is the Mother of Invention & you have just proved it.
So nice to see some tatting, my maternal grandmother did tatting for years & I have missed seeing it so thank you for posting your creation.

fireworkslover 01-28-2013 08:42 AM

Or you could have added a fused shape on there and quilted around the edge and no one would know you covered up a mistake.

mjsylvstr 01-28-2013 08:55 AM

That's how I got started sewing a tiny heart on everything that I make. I made a quilt for friends' 50th anniversary and when I received it back from the long-armer, there was a tiny rip right along the outer border.......something I am sure that she never even noticed. I didn't want to say anything but had to do something before giving it as a gift.
A little heart covered it beautifully and all thought it was so clever to put a heart on an anniversary quilt.
LITTLE DID THEY KNOW!!!!!!!!
I now place a heart on whatever I do...and being my birthday is Valentine's day, it has become my logo.

rosiewell 01-28-2013 08:55 AM

It looks great, just like it was meant to be there. beautiful quilt

JanieH 01-28-2013 09:13 AM

I agree that the butterfly looks like you planned it. When people compliment it, and I am sure they will, just nod your head and say "Thank you."

Sierra 01-28-2013 09:18 AM

Great minds are obviously similar. I finished my one and only bargello (sp?) quilt and the very center spot had a gap! So I cut out two 2' dragonflys and permanently glued them together (they were a match) and, leaving the wings free sewed the dragonfly down, covering the two sides that were loose. It's been 3 or 4 years now and my neice has told me to STOP FRETTING! It's good.

solstice3 01-28-2013 09:49 AM

great save!!

Grama Lehr 01-28-2013 09:51 AM
