orange quilt

1 Attachment(s)
My son bought me orange fabric for Christmas. He said he wanted to make sure he was buying fabric I didn't have, and he knew I wouldn't have any orange. (He is right. I mainly do purple or blue. Orange isn't even on my list...)

But I have ended up liking the quilt I made from the fabric he bought.

Here is my orange quilt. I am surprised that I like it and surprised that it felt refreshing to be working with a new color. The pattern is Just Take Five.

It’s good to get out of our comfort zone

Fun quilt and fabric!

I like it! I love tangerine orange. Funny how we have "our" colors. I think I manage to work orange into most of the kid quilts I make for donation, and very little purple. (Used to be my favorite color and I think I burned out???) I have yet to make a black and white quilt.

Your addition of red and white sure is fresh with the orange. Tell your son he "done good."

I've never been an orange person either, but that's great--and so trendy with Pantone saying "Tiger Lily" is THE color this year!

Loving the brightness..... Beautiful!

Good job!!

Great story, and fun quilt!

Cute. I have a lot of orange, but mostly use it as accent to brighten up a quilt. Yellow, I use the same way. Now, thanks to you and your son, I may have to re-think that strategy.

Thanks. Actually, what appears to be red is really a deep red orange.... My camera, as it turns out, isn't too accurate when it comes to colors. Often a purple fabric looks blue when I take a picture. Maybe it is time to learn how to take pictures with my cell phone. :)

Not just an great quilt, but what an awesome and thoughtful son!

quilterpurpledog 02-10-2018 03:14 AM

I like the story and it sounds so much like what a loving son would do-we have three sons and I can anyone of them doing this. I think it wonderful that your son is interested in your quilting hobby. I like orange very much and use it a lot. It just adds sparkle. I like the quilt you made with your orange and I think it will always bring smiles when you use it.

Great job...I agree that it is good for you (and us) to stretch our boundaries from time to time and can see that it would be fun to play with such a colorful collection of fabrics. I’m sure most of us have our favorite go to colors. : )

SheriR 02-10-2018 03:49 AM

What a fun gift from a son! Orange is so unappreciated. You'll think of your son when you snuggle under it!

Battle Axe 02-10-2018 04:29 AM

I look much better if I wear orange. I have a very ruddy complexion.

beginnerquilter 02-10-2018 04:48 AM

This is so beautiful...I love the way this turn out...wow...Love the Colors.

coopah 02-10-2018 05:24 AM

That turned out to be lovely with all those oranges playing well with each other. :-) Love the Take Five pattern! It’s a winner every time.

stichinluvr 02-10-2018 06:57 AM

That looks Great! You both did a wonderful job. And it's so nice he bought you something you could use.

I never cared much for orange but I love it now. Your quilt turned out great.

klswift 02-10-2018 07:45 AM

We all have a color that we don't care for. Mine is orange, so much so that a friend bought me a jelly roll and a stack of fat quarters in oranges. She said she knew I wouldn't buy orange fabric, but there would be a time when that would be the perfect color I would need. She was right! While making a quilt for a nephew, it needed something - checked out the orange and it was perfect. It turned out to be one of my favorite child's quilt! While orange is still not a favorite, I have changed my tune and learned to appreciate its use. Your quilt is not only very pretty, but (I feel) it has a warmth and glow to it. Nice job!

Texastam 02-10-2018 07:59 AM

I love it! Orange is one of my favorite colors. I am proud of you stepping out of your comfort zone.

I think every color has its place and orange gave your lap quilt punch and a smile. Love it.

Iraxy 02-10-2018 09:50 AM

Orange you glad you got out of your comfort zone and found something awesome on the other side?

bearisgray 02-10-2018 10:41 AM

Great story - great son - great quilt!

Monika 02-10-2018 11:13 AM

Love it! Welcome to the orange side, you may end up loving it.

Doggramma 02-10-2018 12:16 PM

That turned out pretty. So different from your usual purple

SusieQOH 02-10-2018 07:51 PM

I love your quilt and orange is not a favorite of mine either! What a darling boy buying Mom fabric. I broke down and bought that Tiger Lily color. It's not as bright as I hoped for though, it's a bit on the rusty side. I love your fabrics!

You have a good memory! The majority of my quilts are purple. :)

Great quilt and I wonder if your son was hinting he'd like a quilt made from the material he bought?

BETTY62 02-10-2018 09:08 PM

Love the brightness of the fabric in your quilt and the pattern you selected. Your son saw a beauty I would have missed.

The two orange prints have flowers in them, so, no, he wasn't hinting for a quilt. I'd love to make him one, but he just isn't interested in having a quilt. He currently is a doctoral student at Oklahoma State University, living on campus. I sort of hope that when he is out in the real world, a quilt from Mom might be something he does want. Neither he nor my husband really like quilts, though they support my hobby beautifully, each buying fabric once in a while. Both have made it clear that I shouldn't make them quilts. Oh well....
