our fire dept. has a fish fry fund raiser every Sept. last year it was canceled, we had a hurricane instead! not nearly as much fun. in December someone's pasure fire got out of hand ( they burn them to get rid of all the old grass so the new spring grass can grow better) anyway, it came very very close to my house which is surrounded by pine trees so from 10 pm till 4 am there were 3 VFDs and several neighbors helping us protect our place and get the fire surrounded and put out. I was terrified, we survived the hurricane with minimal damage and I just knew we were going to loose it all in a flash because of someone's neglect. They get permits to burn with the understanding that they will keep a watch on it.
Anyway, after that long drawn out story, I made this quilt for the auction this year.

What a beautiful quilt and what a great thing to do for your VFD. I think sometimes we just assume they'll be there-kinda take them for granted. What a way to show how much they're appreciated.

MollieSue 07-12-2009 06:47 PM

Just gorgeous!!!Loving it!!! :D I once made an apron, embroidered the University of Tennessee's football schedule(we were National Champs that year) and more football stuff on it and my brother raffled it off for someone with cancer and he raised $250!!! Just for an apron so I can't imagine how successful you will be!! Good going!!! :D

That is just gorgeous!!

Butterflyspain 07-13-2009 05:47 AM

Oh Lovely work, I know how you feel. Yesterday the helicopters were flying around here as there were two separate fires going at once. its just so dry here at the moment, there are NO fires allowed at this time of year and notices flash up on the road signs not to throw cigarettes out of there windows.

Anyway congratulations on doing such fine work for a very worthy cause.

kathy 07-13-2009 06:18 AM

thank you all for the compliments and encouragement. years ago when times were good women would mention an item they liked at the auction and it was ON. The more the husbands drank the more they'd spend, especially if they thought they were going to be outdone, those that didn't have wives or whatever would buy stuff and give it back to be sold again. those were the good ole days.

omak 07-13-2009 06:27 AM

What a great way to use and display Dresdan Plate!
And, what a nice thing to do for the VFD ... as a former volunteer fireman/EMT, I understand the wonderful encouragement your gift will provide.
Thank you for supporting your community members who sometimes put aside their family life to protect others.
