This is a quilt that I had started at retreat and just couldn't find my passion to finish. Couldn't do anything. Took me a while but I finally started coming out of my depression and one of the things that helped me was finishing this quilt. I love making quilts.

Oh - that's gorgeous! Glad you're feeling better.

swimmom 08-22-2009 03:31 PM

I love this one also - you do a lovely job of creating "happy" quilts.

quiltluvr 08-22-2009 03:36 PM

Isn't it wonderful what fabric can do for us that at times nothing else can? I'm so glad to hear you're feeling better.

The colors you chose really speak "smiles." Lovely job.

(Hey, when I'm not feeling well, can I borrow it??)

This is really pretty too! I am loving all your pictures!

I struggle with seasonal depression- we have looong winters in the U.P., plus I have a family history of depression. I, like you, make very bright, happy quilts. I wonder if there is something to that? We both use colorful "wild" fabric to make cheerful happy quilts to lift our spirits. I bet there are others on here who would say the same. I have stretches where the sewing machine just does not appeal to me, so I always know I am in a downward spiral when I don't want to play with my fabric.

Funny, though, even when I don't feel like sewing, I still love to BUY fabric. LOL!

Glad you are feeling better. This is a very comfy comforting looking quilt. I like it very much.

Amen to the buying of fabric when I am feeling blue!
Lovely happy quilt!

It's so good to find pleasure in something constructive like quilting, and watching what you create grow and turn into a thing of beauty. Great job!

I find it really amazing how handling fabrics, putting pieces together, and spending quiet time with it can somehow clear away the dark clouds.

You did a really nice job! Quilting has completely alleviated my depression, glad it helped yours as well!

joeyoz 08-22-2009 08:26 PM

The name of the pattern is "Sew Scrappy". The book the pattern came out of is "40 Fabulous Quick-Cut Quilts" by Evelyn Sloppy.

She gives great instruction. If you iron in the direction she indicates you never have to use a pin to piece it together. The only place i used pins was to put the borders on and that was because I wanted to make sure they were centered correctly.

Eddie 08-22-2009 08:34 PM

That is such a piece of art, Joey. Magnificent work. The border is something to behold all in itself.

I'm glad you were able to finish this quilt and that it helped with coming out of the depression. I've battled with depression all my life, and there is a long family history of it as well. I find that using some creative energy really helps me, and getting into quilting has been a great outlet for that.

Beautiful quilt....and so glad you have found a creative outlet to help with your depression. I too find solace in quilting, I think it is the colours, shapes and the rhythm of the process. Thanks for sharing and the colours are just beautiful.

You may have heard this before, but a doctor recommended to my sister, who also suffers seasonal depression, to increase the lighting in her house. The lighter and brighter the better, I guess to simulate sunshine. Little by little, she was able to tackle a room at a time in her house to paint and brighten it up. She rarely gets depressed anymore, and certainly not to the extent she used to.

Your quilt is just gorgeous, and if you don't keep it, it will certainly brighten someone's year!

Justquilting 08-24-2009 04:53 AM

Wow!! I'll say you got your mojo back.. Beautiful!!
Now keep up the great work
