Over-flowing box of squares

1 Attachment(s)
When I made extra blocks, have leftover scrappy binding or borders, things I hae been saving because I love, etc., I put them in a box. It was time to go through the box and see what I could come up with. Now that I see a picture, I am not happy with the 16" square on the right side with the mass of lavender. But not going to take it all apart now. Thanks for looking.

I really like it and think the lavender square calms it down a bit. I love your idea and I think I'll give it a try!

Nice job!

MFord 07-05-2015 08:11 AM

I think it's fun! It's like a sample of a lot of the quilts you've made - a good remembrance!

quiltsRfun 07-05-2015 08:19 AM

It does kind of jump out at you. Maybe add a bit of appliqué?

IQ2 07-05-2015 08:20 AM

Great idea it looks wonderful! If you're not happy with the lavender patch, maybe do some applique or some fancy stitches through it to break it up a little.

I agree, something small and simple, like a heart or flower, appliqued in each quarter of the lavender block would be easy and would balance it out with the other blocks. Will make a fun quilt.

Lots of interesting things to look at.

If you are not happy with it now - (when it would be relatively easy to modify or change - do you think you will be happy with it 20 years from now? (I am paraphrasing from Doreen Speckmann's book)

paintmejudy 07-05-2015 08:36 AM

Like those easy fix solutions -- going to add something to those lavender eye-sores! Thanks, all.

AngeliaNR 07-05-2015 08:54 AM

I love this--need to organize a box for things like this--they are scattered hither and yon right now. Great idea, Judy!

mtkoldra 07-05-2015 11:03 AM

you could appliqué something on you least favorite square, but your quilt looks very nice just us it is

mtkoldra 07-05-2015 11:07 AM

what is the name of the red/orange block on the left?

KARENBOUTQUILTIN 07-05-2015 11:18 AM

I really like it. I like the lavender as well. Using your left over squares is such a great idea. I think I am going to do this. Thank you for sharing.

QUILTNMO 07-05-2015 11:46 AM

great scrappy!!!

tessagin 07-05-2015 11:50 AM

I would leave it. It's a sampler and that is what it is.

ManiacQuilter2 07-05-2015 01:13 PM

You made a marvelous scrappy quilt that is totally original. Job well done indeed.

Barb in Louisiana 07-05-2015 01:32 PM

Good idea. Think about all the memories this quilt brings back. I looked at the lavender square and thought of it as a place to show off some quilting or maybe put the name of the quilt and who made it.

Grandma Bonnie 07-05-2015 02:13 PM

I like it just the way it is! A happy reminder of other quilts you have made.

redquilter 07-05-2015 02:23 PM

I actually think it provides a resting spot for the eyes. The rest, while really interesting, is busy. It's a neat quilt.

lynnie 07-05-2015 03:43 PM

I really like the way it came out. great orphan block quilt.

JuneBillie 07-05-2015 07:16 PM

I wouldn't change it, because that one block is like it's resting place. :)

QM 07-05-2015 10:56 PM

Red zig jag on that one? It's a blah piece of a nice top.

tammyg 07-06-2015 03:27 AM

I love it...good way of using all the scraps.....

donna873 07-06-2015 06:18 AM

Omg awesome idea. Love it

Mariposa 07-06-2015 06:24 AM

Will make a fun sampler! Perhaps add some applique, or embroidery, etc. to the lavender area.....

Taughtby Grandma 07-07-2015 03:39 AM

I like it, since it's a scrappy I don't think you can have too much of any one color and I like the way you have put the blocks together.

carolynjo 07-07-2015 04:28 AM

That looks pretty and I agree that you should put something in each lavender square to break up the color.

ghquilter53 07-07-2015 04:31 AM

You could applique something in the large lavender space to break it up....maybe a vine with a couple of flowers.

materialgrl 07-07-2015 05:48 AM

I think its wonderful

twinkie 07-07-2015 06:02 AM

I think it looks great as it is. Good job. We seem to be our worst critic.

rosiewell 07-07-2015 06:53 AM

Looks good to me, I like your idea and how you put together all different blocks, thanks for sharing.

Chasing Hawk 07-07-2015 07:06 AM

I have two boxes like that. One for orphan blocks I have collected and one for designs I made with my embroidery machine.
If I ever get to it the embroidery one should be rather interesting. I have designs ranging from flowers to Native American patterns, redwork butterflies to motorcycles and guns.

Alot of my orphan blocks are used to make little barbie quilts from the grand daughters. After all even Barbie needs a quilt to go with all her other stuff...lol

barny 07-07-2015 07:09 AM

I LIKE IT. It says "Look at me, I'm bigger than all the others". Keep it in there. The quilt is wonderful. Barny

annette1952 07-07-2015 08:21 AM

Great quilt & a great use of scraps & extra blocks.

MaryTG 07-07-2015 09:15 AM

Do some fancy quilting in the lavender area. I agree with others that the top is busy enough without adding applique or something else. I like it as it is. JMHO

caspharm 07-07-2015 09:26 AM

It's a fun quilt.

IBQUILTIN 07-07-2015 10:37 AM

I think your quilt is pretty, and the lavender square gives the eye a place to rest for a moment with all the movement that goes on in there. Great job

BettyB 07-07-2015 10:46 AM

thanks for posting this Judy, it gives me the idea I could do this too I have so many orphan blocks and scraps. Love it.

MargeD 07-07-2015 11:01 AM

Great blocks, I especially like your teapot block.

Latrinka 07-07-2015 01:00 PM

Really cute! I would probably just put some fancy stitching on the lavender, maybe in a dark colored thread to make it stand out.
