Those were some of the first REAL quilts I made. I sort of cheated when I made them. They are all 40 inches wide. I didn't want to cut and piece the backing, so I made sure the top was the same width as the fabric I was using for the back. They are all little lap quilts I made and sent out for Christmas presents. I think they went out in 2005.
Terri - Now thats not cheating in my book, its called using your noggin!!
I wish somebody had guided me to being sensible about the size of this first quilt of mine.....Its so blinking big I am quilting it in two halves, I THOUGHT I had sat and studied and planned and measured and done everything possible to ensure a smooth journey to success....BUT realised as soon as I started to layer the first half that as I had added sashing of course the 'dead' centre of the quilt was in the middle of the centre sashing so I would have to join to one side....I had estimated using two full widths of fabric for the backing using a central vertical join - so basically one side is two inches wider than the other....so it has been a nightmare trying to position the layering of the second section exactly but with absolute nothing to spare...so hope to God the sides are straight...... :(
So you see after all my ramblings, if I had JUST stuck to doing a 40" like you.................

Unless I am following a pattern, NONE of my quilts are less than 90x90
