Paducah 2013 Quilt Show

Here's some images from this year's Quilt Show. The crowd was huge, despite the cool and damp weather. To respect the quilter's copyrights on their art, I'm just posting general images, except for the special 'Quilt Like an Egyptian' display. These are Egyptian tent makers and they do some wonderful work...to watch these men gave me a whole new respect for applique. It isn't as precise as traditional applique, but the stitches add to the charm....and they're so FAST! Their work was for sale and many pieces found new homes.

The crowds were big, but everyone was pleasant and courteous.

The vendors were awesome!

I spent tons of money with the vendors...it was a virtual candy store of fabric, tools and knick-nacks

The YoYo ladies were busy all day.

The YoYo ladies were busy all day and the crowds were several deep around their table most of the show...I grabbed these shots late Sat afternoon. I grabbed a passer-by and they took a shot of me and Mom too.

We met Quilt Man!

Finally, after all these years, My friend and I met the Quilt Man! His trusty sidekick Bobbin wasn't there that day though.
The Big Paducah banner was a popular photo destination with friends getting their picture snapped all day and then, I just had to show the cute Featherweights all painted up with cool colors. (I have a traditional black one) |
thanks for sharing these wonderful pictures. almost like being there
|
I am glad you had a great time.....it makes me excited to think about going to the one in Chicago area in June!....can't wait to see all those wonderful quilts....and maybe learn something new.
|
Thank you for posting these pictures! Especially Quilt Man!
|
Our tour guide had arranged for Quiltman to meet our bus when we arrived. What a trip he was. It was a great day, beautiful weather and lots to see and spend money on. Got to see Ricky Timms and Alex Anderson. Didn't make it to the Eleanor Burns show though.
|
Thank you for posting the pictures. Someday maybe, but it seems so far. I don't have very many quilting friends who I would travel with, so I'm in a bind. Your pictures made me feel like I was there. Thanks again.

Thanks everyone! It is always a fun week.
Here's just a little of my 'loot'...I got a neat little light that straps on to your finger, a nifty little foot that sews curves (check out Curve Master...awesome!) Lots of dye, some African embroidery and some music themed fabric for a quilt I'm going to do for my nephew. |
Thanks for posting the pictures. It has been a few years since I was able to get to a big quilt show but had such a wonderful time I will be going again someday. Planning to stop at Paducah when we take a trip to Ohio this summer.

Here's the link to the tutorial for the bowtie block that the YoYo's were demonstrating. Mom gave me permission to post it here. They spent hours with folks learning how to do this...she even had a couple of Japanese quilters who didn't speak a word of English who sat with her and learned how to do these perfectly. http://www.quiltingboard.com/tutoria...h-t215826.html
also, the Scissor Man is always thrilled to see the YoYo's...here he is with Mom. |
Not all of us are able to attend and it was wonderful to see the sights and hear what was going on there. I love the vendors (the vendors love me) LOLThe feather weights in different colors was most interesting too.

Those cute little Featherweights were quite pricey, most were in the $800 range...I could have bought 3 or 4 for that price, but they were really cool to look at.

I too am so lucky to live in western KY and go to the Paducah quilt show. My friends and I spend as many days as we want drooling over the beautiful quilts, meeting people from all over the world, and spending our last nickel! The Boy Scouts also sell the most scrumptious homemade strawberry shortcake! Then again--I want to go to the Houston show! Haha! There's always another place!!
|
So glad you posted the photo's. Looks like you had a fabulous time!
