Painted blocks for Bed Runner
3 Attachment(s)
Every now and then My friend, Doxie Keller (Folk Artist) will send me some blocks she has painted for me to put together and quilt.
The blocks are for a Christmas Pattern and the runner will go to convention in May. I thought I would post the process for the beginners who would like to see a tut about sashing. Here are the blocks she painted. The second pic shows the first sashings. The block is measured across the width and the sashing is cut to that measurement. Then they are added to, one sash between two blocks. The third pic shows the tape measuring down the length of the blocks for that sashing. |
They;re absolutely gorgeous.

Those blocks are ADORABLE and your sashing just brings them to life. Please post when finished. Charming.

Sashings

The quilt is then measured across the top or middle for the top and bottom sash. After these are sewed on, the quilt is measured for the side sashings. The quilt is folded in half lengthwise and that measurement is taken. I would also measure the sides, just to check the difference.
Here is a pic of the sashing in place. The second pic shows the border which is done the same way as the sashing. I think I have arrange the blocks the wrong way, oh Lord! I think the blocks should be going the other way, as when you look at the bottom of the bed, the blocks should be right side up. But I will see what Doxie says. |
Wow! Can't wait to see the finished product.
|
beautiful...
|
that will be terrific! what talent
|
Those are so cute, your friends paintings are adorable.
|
That is soooooo beautiful! Both you and your friend are fantastic artistes! Will be looking out for the finished quilt in anticipation. Thank you for sharing!! :)
|
very nice blocks
|
Those blocks are unbelievable. I like it so far.
|
Those are just beautiful!
|
Wow, she must be a professional painter:) You both did an awesome job.
|
I think it would look good lying across the bed just like you did it. If the bed was situated where you viewed it from the side rather than looking at the end, this runner will be perfect!

I didn't hear from Doxie in time so I ripped and redid and then after I finished, I read my emails and she said it was fine the way it is, and it would hang it the booth better that way but it was too late.
Here is the way it should be. I do have the Christmas balls upside down, but that won't be too hard to rip and reverse lol. I will quilt it tomorrow. Doxie and I are both Folk Artist. We have worked together for years. She is still painting and I have been immersed in quilting lol. |
Fantastic quilt!!

Is this the same Doxie that painted on tv, I love her work, and would love to talk to her, If you could get her to write me, I would appreciate it very much. Both of you did a great job on her quilt, I have been wanting to make a red and white Christmas quilt. I have been busy making crocheted baby afghans for newborns in need, and have some ufos to finish first. Thank you for sharing with us.
