I realized that while I do a lot of admiring of everyone's gorgeous quilts on this forum, I've shied away from posting photos of my own. I started quilting four years ago - had no idea what I was doing, but that didn't stop me, LOL. I am a completely undiciplined quilter. Anyway, here is a quilt that I made for my niece from paisley fabric samples I found at an estate sale. It is predominantly brown, but for some reason the other colors pop in the photos.
The binding is a ripply mess. I had just gotten my first embroidery machine and went a little nuts with all sorts of random messages along the edges. I wanted to re-do it, but she loved it and grabbed it away!
She is very ill with a rare form of leukemia and spends several nights each week in a hyperbaric chamber. This was meant as a comfort quilt, but the silly woman hung it over her fireplace!

That's stunnning, I love the way the colors pop.

Very nice. Your quilt is pleasing to look at. I also like the colors.

sewmuchmore 03-28-2011 03:02 PM

I am not keen on paisley, Had to wear alot of it in my childhood. But your Quilt is STUNNING. You have made me rethink about using paisley fabric.

You are very kind. I am almost ashamed to post anything in this forum of such talented people! I did find one that I took in daylight. Looks a little browner.

I am sure that this beautiful quilt is very soothing & comforting for her to come home to! Great use of paisley. Good job!

I love paisley and that is one beautiful quilt!

bamamama 03-28-2011 03:07 PM

Beautiful quilt! Its amazing what they are doing with hyperbaric chambers these days. I burned my hand really bad and was sure I would have horrible scars when it healed. The doctors put me in a hyperbaric chamber for 1 hr 3 days in a row and my hand was completely healed with no sign of a scar anywhere by the end of that week. It was like a miricle. I pray it helps your niece to heal too!

bjnicholson 03-28-2011 03:10 PM

I LIKE it!! Like the colors, the pattern and I think you did a bang-up job of putting it together!

Oh, it is beautful! Great job!

Sandi19 03-28-2011 03:38 PM

She obviously loves it. I know I'm too critical of my work and maybe you are, too. It's very pretty and she loves it because you made it for her. People that don't sew are usually overly impressed...don't you love that?

lynnie k 03-28-2011 04:12 PM

very nice great job

janetter 03-28-2011 04:20 PM

If she hung it over her fireplace than that is an honor she has bestowed on you. She is very very touched, trust me.

Oh my! A very, very beautiful quilt. Obviously, she loved it so much she wanted to show it off by displaying it over her fireplace.

You've inspired me -- I've been collecting paisley fabric with the intention of making a quilt using only paisley fabrics. Thank-you.

Homemother 03-29-2011 03:26 AM

Thank you all for your kind comments. I'm getting ready for my next project and this time I WILL be less undisciplined and will pay attention to that mysterious 1/4"!
