Here's another block to add to my "sampler", this one took a little while. It's so exciting to see them come together, it looks like they won't go together right, but then in the end it does. Now, do I rip off all the paper, or wait until I put the quilt together?

Shemjo 09-19-2009 06:24 PM

I leave the paper on until I have it all together and then tear it out gently by folding it back and forth so as not to tear out any of the stitching.
BTW, your piece is beautiful!

retrogirl02 09-19-2009 06:55 PM

Gorgeous work! You've inspired me to check out amma's tute for sure.

I see you have a suggestion, also, I run the duller side of my seam ripper, over the stitches, back and to a little, afterwards....I leave ppr on, till I get ready to join rows.
That is one pretty block! I love those colors. This is going to be some quilt...(some pig...from Charlotte's Web, just jumped in my head  )

amma 09-20-2009 10:26 AM

Both of these blocks are stunners!!! Good Job!!! I love watching you as add on more tfor your sampler quilt :D :D :D

Marcia 09-20-2009 10:35 AM

Great job!!! Amma is a wonderful teacher.

amma 09-20-2009 10:41 AM

I forgot to add a thank you for the compliments  :D

I leave my paper on...when I start sewing them together I remove paper from the seam lines before I press. It makes getting the little pieces out easier. If you leave the big pieces alone until the borders are on, it helps to stabilize the bias edges of the blocks, JMHO

Here is my latest addition to my pp'd sampler quilt and here's what they look like together so far. I know I'm going pretty slow on this but am plugging away. Any suggestions to make this look better?

Why do you want it to look better? Already looks perfect to me! :D

Iluv2quilt 09-24-2009 11:36 PM

I messed up the colors, I put the brown where the white was supposed to be, but doesn't look too bad I guess.

sharon b 09-25-2009 06:22 AM

After you have them all done send it to me and I will take care of it for you  Well I mean fix the block... LOL What did you think I meant  Looks GREAT to me, and if you are worried about the brown put it in the center and make it the focal of the quilt, and act like that is what you wanted :D

Do you mean within the block, Suzi? If so, I wouldn't worry about it - after all, no one is going to stand there with the pattern and compare! Tha main thing is that YOU'RE happy with it! :D

sylslight 09-25-2009 09:08 AM

great job!!

Here is my favorite one so far, The star looks like it has striped fabric running through it, but I paper pieced the whole thing. What do you think? I also decided to get rid of the flower blocks in favor of more earthy colors for this quilt. I'm moving on to another block now. Have a nice day!

Yes, and I think flowers will be my theme on that quilt.

Here is another block I finished today, I really like this one as well. The name of it is Crossroads. It was really fun and easy to make.

Skeat 09-25-2009 06:19 PM

Okay, here are two more to add. I introduced some color so I could get more colors throughout the quilt. One is a Friendship Circle and the other one is an Exploding Star. Hope these help make the quilt pop a little. Thank you for looking.

Rhonda 09-30-2009 05:04 PM

Fantastic work Suzi!! You are really rolling along there! How many blocks are you aiming for?

BlueChicken 09-30-2009 05:10 PM

These are absolutely stunning! How on earth did I miss this.

What wonderful work.... isn't PP great, such perfect points and lines.

You've done a stunning job on all of the blocks, well done! :-)

A hint for removing the paper... I saw on tv once a lady doing PP, she folded and creased along every single line before starting, and it "weakened" the line so it could be easily torn. Even though it gets creased, it still flattens out for the sewing part.
I haven't tried it though.

Sheila Elaine 09-30-2009 05:20 PM

Suzi, this is going to be a Superstar Quilt.........& the color is going to POP...

littlehud 09-30-2009 05:53 PM

Those are beautiful blocks. I can't believe you have just started. They look great.

Lisa_wanna_b_quilter 09-30-2009 06:43 PM

Wow! You are really zooming along.

BlueChicken 09-30-2009 07:40 PM

I just made my testing block for the Dear Jane swap, it's tiny and done by PP. I folded the paper along the printed sewing line, ran my fingernail along it to really crease the fold, then unfolded it and did the next line, and so on and so forth, till all the lines were done. I flattened it out again with my hands, and sewed my block as normal.

Now, I've only done one, but it was definitely easier to remove the paper at the end.

Iluv2quilt 09-30-2009 07:53 PM

My solution for taking the paper off is this: I asked my DH to do it and he said yes!! lol He was bored one night and he's done a few of them so far! Thank you all so much for the compliments and the encouragement. It is very addicting and a whole lot of fun to place the colors. :D
