Parquet Quilt - needs border input

2 Attachment(s)
I am about to finish up this Positively Parquet quilt, by UCan2, and can't decide the borders. The pattern calls for the 6" border with 6" squares, but I am kind of partial to the 3" border. What do you think?

Murphy 11-14-2011 07:48 PM

I, too, like the smaller border with no squares in the corners. This is a beautiful quilt. Thank you for sharing.

knlsmith 11-14-2011 07:51 PM

I don't like the bigger border. The smaller one is just right.

MaryMo 11-14-2011 07:52 PM

I also like the narrower border. It seems to emphasize the energy of the quilt. Beautiful quilt!

Lori S 11-14-2011 07:53 PM

I like the smaller border! it seems more in scale with the rest of the quilt. I think te bigger reads as too much solid .

QuiltnNan 11-14-2011 07:53 PM

i like the first one

MarilynLouise 11-14-2011 07:53 PM

I like the smaller border, too. Very interesting quilt!

luvnquilt 11-14-2011 07:57 PM

I'm in favor of the larger border. It's a beautiful quilt, I like it.

Marilynsue 11-14-2011 08:21 PM

I too like the smaller border.

stitcherlady 11-14-2011 08:29 PM

I like both borders about the same. Nice job on your quilt.

walkswithwolves 11-14-2011 08:45 PM

Beautiful quilt. I like the wide boarder as it seems to bring it all together.

cindy4857 11-14-2011 10:19 PM

I usually favor the smaller/thinner boarders, but with this quilt I actually like the wider boarder with the squares in the corner. I really like your quilt, can't wait to see it done.

snicktrain 11-14-2011 10:46 PM

I think the larger border takes away from the quilt. Therefore, I vote for the smaller also. Very nice.

Voni

I think the all black border keeps it balanced better....love the quilt.

QuiltingQueen 11-15-2011 03:26 AM

I like the smaller border. One thing I have heard about borders is that they should be less than 3/4 the size of the block and I think that rings true here... but as I tell everyone it's your quilt - you need to like it :) It is very stunning!

ghquilter53 11-15-2011 03:57 AM

I like the larger border.

Gilly 11-15-2011 04:22 AM

I like the larger border I think but like both.

BeckyL 11-15-2011 04:37 AM

I really prefer the larger border. Much more striking.

rubyred 11-15-2011 04:44 AM

I like the smaller border.

MoanaWahine 11-15-2011 04:54 AM

I like the larger boarder and the squares. I think it finishes the quilt top off. The smaller boarder is nice, but it is missing "something" as I would say. The larger boarder with the squares allows the eye to travel to the board and "finishes" the quilt top. That is just my opinion. Good luck on your decision and it will be wonderful however you choose to finish it.

sewmorethings 11-15-2011 04:56 AM

I like the narrow border, if you need it bigger use one of the other colors to make a second border. It is a beautiful quilt, love the colors.

piepatch 11-15-2011 05:04 AM

I like the bigger border. It seems to give it a better finish.

catladyquilts 11-15-2011 05:28 AM

I like the small border, love the setting

katsewnsew 11-15-2011 05:32 AM

What a great looking quilt, I too like the smaller border! Beautiful job!

laurafet 11-15-2011 05:42 AM

I like the corner blocks, but the smaller border. Perhaps the blocks can be smaller with fewer strips?

Delta 11-15-2011 05:53 AM

I like the top one with the red binding. because I like the way you have the corners. good luck it is beautiful.

Lavada 11-15-2011 05:56 AM

i like the smaller boader beautiful quilt thanks for sharing

lillybeck 11-15-2011 06:05 AM

I like the look of the smaller border but I think for me I would do a light color 3 inch and the the darker 3 inch. This still gives the same look with a bigger size

SoozeeDoozee 11-15-2011 06:09 AM

Nice quilt. The larger border appeals but the corner blocks not so much. I would probably cut the 6" border in half and add a strip of the medium tan between the two to frame the quilt.

bisseau 11-15-2011 06:27 AM

Unfortunately...I like both...toss a coin?

oma66 11-15-2011 06:41 AM

I agree with you - the smaller border is much more attractive.

Sierra 11-15-2011 06:44 AM

Sometimes less is more. The smaller border lets the quilt design stand out!

shirley35 11-15-2011 07:22 AM

I like the smaller borders much better, it's more pleasing to the eye.

ShirlinAZ 11-15-2011 07:25 AM

I like the 3" border. 6" would be good if the quilt were larger, but it's too much for this size quilt. JMHO

ChildoftheUniverse 11-15-2011 09:13 AM

Either one is nice, my preference is the wider border. Great job on color choices.

jackied 11-15-2011 09:16 AM

Beautiful! I vote for narrow border too.

StitchinJoy 11-15-2011 09:17 AM

It looks really cool both ways but it has a different look. With the plain narrow border the center looks like a barn raising. With the larger border, you lose that "on point" look and it looks more like an uneven 9patch. Just depends on which YOU like best! Like Rick Nelson sang, "You can't please everyone so you have to please yourself."

RuthEm 11-15-2011 09:32 AM

I choose the wider border; makes the quilt look finished!

fabric_fancy 11-15-2011 09:33 AM

no squares in the corners

Nanaof4 11-15-2011 09:43 AM

I prefer the small one.
