I am so excited! I have been looking for the perfect hat to wear fishing. It is made from Realtree Camo denim (denim like) fabric.

I am fair skinned and burn easily. So, i did a little looking on the internet and found a free tutorial!! it wasn't the easiest to figure out the first time, but I finally got it. I used freezer paper to make up the pattern and ironed it on my fabric to cut out.

I saved my freezer paper so i wouldn't have so much trouble the next time. i am going to make some pretty ones too. I've had a few inquiries to make and sell them already! That would be great! Tulip bags, and wide-brimmed sun hats. SO much fun!

I still can't believe I did it!! All this time looking in stores and everything was too expensive that i wanted.

cool! where's the tute? I have a hard time finding them for my husband because one size does NOT fit all! he's a small guy and we always have to sew in a thick band to keep them from falling down on his eyes and ears.

DebraK 07-14-2010 07:36 AM

haha! My husband wears one of those ;-) Good job!

sorry forgot the link. It didn't say i couldn't post the link anywhere on the page so i think we are good.

And I understand, funny, my daughter has trouble with hat sizes too! Custom fit!

MinnieKat 07-14-2010 07:37 AM

I'd love to have a hat like that! Not necessarily the RealTree Camo... Great job!

I have the opposite problem ;-) I would like the tute too, please.

DebraK 07-14-2010 07:38 AM

Thank you!

knlsmith 07-14-2010 07:40 AM

Wouldn't it be awesome if the hat took over the bow tuck!?!?! LMAO

DebraK 07-14-2010 07:42 AM

yes ;-) We'll see everyone sporting your hat and Tulip bag ;-)

knlsmith 07-14-2010 07:43 AM

Oh that would be awesome! I haven't sold very many but i am still trying because Anne is starting college next month. She will be driving 54 miles each wasy 3 and 4 days a week. UGH. But it's worth it!!

Your hat is GREAT!!! Thank you so much for the link. I'm am going to try that very soon! Maybe even today! I'm fair skinned, don't "tan", just sunburn and freckle and the Vegas sun and heat get pretty intense. It's supposed to get to 110 today. My husband loves camo, I'll have to make him a camo version!

I used pellon fusible fleece. It didn't go all the way to the edges, so I trimmed some leftover pieces and ironed on. You make all the rows of stitches around the brim, can't even tell the difference.

Thank you so much for the info! :!: If mine turns out anywhere near as nice as yours, I'll post a pic.

I have some small grommets that were in the drawer of the white sewing machine my Aunt gave me. they are the perfect size. i am going to put 3 or 5 on each side this weekend. Have to figure out how to use grommets and tool first.

This "Fishing Sun Hat" is adorable & sophisticated. The link Tulip bag I saw was for 4 different sizes & what I like about the Tulip bag was it's all one fabric. Thanks for sharing this with us.

hobo2000 07-14-2010 10:40 AM

Pam 07-14-2010 12:20 PM

Good deal! Thanks, I missed the link the first time. Did you make your brim as big as the one in the link????

LeeAnn 07-14-2010 05:14 PM

Wonderful hat! I definitely need one. I do a ton of outside work and try to keep the sun off my face. This hat looks perfect. It beats the old dilapidated straw one I currently sport. I think deranged damsel is correct, it needs vent holes. The only thing worse than a hot head is hot feet. teehee. Though I do speak from experience. Great job, I would think you could easily sell these. Good luck and thanks for sharing.

yorkiemom 07-14-2010 06:24 PM

Cool!

julia58 07-14-2010 06:30 PM

You did a great job on the hat! It's adorable! I might try it...but perhaps the vent holes would be a good idea for me too :)
