I actually started this quilt several months ago, and then put it away after I started sewing the finished blocks together. Like all my well laid plans, mine can go astray at times. :) The fabric in this is from the "Louisa" collection by Moda, and was made from a jelly roll. The overall size is 49" x 68".
As I worked on the quilt, I became sick of the fabric. I just did not like it. And then when I started putting the 8" finished blocks together, I was having a heck of a time getting the points to line up -- I was having to really push, pull, tug, jerk, curse, etc. :( So I threw it all in a box and it became my first UFO. But earlier this week I decided that I had better get busy on some Christmas presents since I have several relatives who are thinking that quilts are going to be under their trees this year. So out came "that ugly quilt that I hate" from the box, and I decided to finish it up. As I was working on it, my oldest daughter came into the room and was looking at it and said "That's pretty, I like it." To which I said something like "I hate this ugly quilt," and thus it's name was born. Now that's it's finished, though, I don't dislike it quite as much. Just glad to be done with it! :D |
Poor misnomered quilt.......lol
I am sure there is someone out there who will absolutely love it. Me thinks the colors are way more subdued for what you usually do. Great - you spread your wings. Good job! |
Quilt Police said it's to ugly for you so I'll just have to take it off your hands and cuddle up....it's cold here today
|
Everyone has those types of quilts at one time or another, then the rest of us can 'ooohhh and aaaahhhh' over the poor orphan. I'm always ready to adopt!
Glad you were able to finish it. It sure is pretty. What's next on your list? |
Eddie, I don't think you could make an ugly quilt if you tried! I've admired that line of fabric for a long time, and I'm happy to see it put together into a quilt. I think it's gorgeous! If you don't like it, I'm sure that somebody on your Christmas list will--you finished it, and that's a good thing!

Ugly is in the eye of the beholder...but you are sooooo wrong :P
|
Well I love it Eddie! It would be a strange old world if we all had the same tastes though wouldnt it?
Karen xx |
I really like it! I'd be happy to have that under the Christmas tree...with MY name on the gift tag. How nice that you were able to pull off what I think is happy ending to the project you disliked. Good lesson for us to try to complete UFOs.

It's not ugly at all. Not quite the colors I usually use but we all have different tastes. Glad you got it done. It looks Beautiful!!!
|
It's a quilt that I would like to make
& be proud to show it off!! :D Now that you have finished it, maybe it'll grow on you. It's beautiful!! :D :D :D :D |
Eddie,
The quilt is lovely. You always do such beautiful work. If the person who is the lucky recipient of this lovely quilt does not want it I am right behind the other board member who have already claimed it. I am glad that you have completed the quilt. |
I think it turned out well, and I like the colors. It does look like a Christmas quilt to me, and who ever gets it will be lucky!!
|
1st UFO Wow I have sooooooooo many! My goal now is 1 new one, then 2 UFO's maybe I'll be caught up in 10 years or so. LOL
Eddie your work if fabulous there's no ugly in EDDIE! |
I like it! Someone's ugly is someone's else's pretty.

OK...since we are all sharing our "ugly" quilts. ;) this really isn't ugly now that it is done, ...except for the one block turned 90°...which I am leaving the way it is LOL Kaitlin likes the quilt, and that matters mroe to me than perfection.
|
This quilt is very pretty, but I can understand getting sick of a fabric and the struggle that can go along with making some quilts go together (ask me how I know). It's great that you finished it, congratulations for the sticktoitness! :D
|
I'm sorry you think it is an ugly quilt, Eddie, because I like both the pattern and the fabrics.
|
Looks like a pretty quilt to cuddle up with to me.
|
overall the colors are a littel subdued, but they work together, and the white with them is great. I love the backing too. I am happy for you that you finished, bc I know that feeling, when it wasn't exactly what you wanted. You toughed it out and now have another great quilt...or somebody does :D

DITTO!!!! :D :D |
Very nice quilt Eddie. Is it the contrast of the bright white with darks, or can you figure out the reason(s) you don't like it. Looks like a Swiss Cross to me. Whoever gets it will be proud to own it. I vote that it's a keeper.
|
you simply amaze me with your talent. And this is not ugly, and I'm impressed that you still don't have a UFO. It's only a matter of time, you know....
|
I think it's another gorgeous one - I'll send my address!
|
Eddie
That's another gorgeous quilt - I absolutely love that design range from Moda- it is sort of a spin on civil war fabrics isn't it. Love the border & backing fabrics too - are they also Moda? Tisha |

Love your quilt Pzazz As you mentioned as long as the recipient Kaitlin likes it nothing else seems to matter. The odd block adds to it's originality too. It's a beauty  Tisha |
Eddie...I like all the others...like your quilt! What a surprize...I thought when I opened the thread...hah...Eddie finally made an ugly one....nope...still hasn't happened!
|
I like it. Though, I totally understand how you feel. I've made a few that started out as great ideas...then I got that "ugh, what was I thinking" feeling while assembling. Once done, everyone loves them and I don't mind them as much as I did while working on them. I think my mood at the moment has a lot to do with my perception of how it looks. Sometimes putting it aside for awhile is the best thing.
So, what's next? I always look forward to seeing your quilts! :) |
I LOVE IT!!! :D :D :D
|
I agree with your daughter, I think its pretty. Great job!!!
|
I LOVE that quilt!! I might have picked a different border--but the whole middle is made of MY FAVORITE COLORS!!
I giggled through your story. |
Your quilt is BEAUTIFUL. I love it and whoever receives it, will love it, too.
|
It's gorgeous!!!!!! I absolutely love it!!!
I could show you UGLY!!!!! Someone is going to be so thrilled on Christmas morning - some very lucky someone. Sometimes we are our own worst enemies - knock it off! |
Terriffic looking quilt Eddie! Someone will love it forever!
Your log cabin quilt is great too Pzazz! |
Hi all, and thanks for the kind words about it. I think the fabric patterns are what turned me off to it the most, and the really dour colors. And of course my frustration with the points. This one just didn't do much for me like others have, it's interesting how we all have such different tastes though.
|
I like it  And hey give it to someone for Christmas and they will love it
|
I like it. Maybe it's too girly for you.
And on a less than generous note, it is good to know you have tugging, cursing quilting moments. I was beginning to think you had a quilted cape and tights. |
It's very pretty Eddie. Glad you decided to finish it. :D :D
