Here are a couple of pictures from the quilt we are hand quilting. I posted pictures recently asking if anyone knew the name of the block. It's obviously a fan block reversed...it is very old and the owner purchased it at a yard sale. I love it.
So I named this the Fan Block Quilt And another view... |
It is very very pretty!

I dearly love this quilt. Be sure to post photos when you are done:)
Very unique. I love it.
I love your "fancy fan" .. stunning scrappy quilt!!
There is a photo of a quite similar quilt on page 72, Twentieth Century Quilts by Woodard and Greenstein, ca. 1930. That one is laid out the same way yours is, using one border, but the fans are in a striped fabric less colorful than your pretty quilt.
I'm sure there are others in many books of quilts of the period, and most are called "fans". Jan in VA |
That is really a treasure! I'm glad you're hand quilting it, as would have been done when it was pieced. Just lovely.
What a treasure!
This is stunning.
I would call it a banded fan because of the arc bands on the outside rim of the fans.
Very pretty. Thanks for sharing.
Wow...it's really pretty. I wish I knew how to hand quilt :)
What a great quilt. I have not seen that block before but love the way the quilt turned out.

oops....nevermind...already posted....LOL :D
Elaine....someone found it!! http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-120416-1.htm#3164619 |
Actually, this variation is slightly different. The original quilt has a band on each subsection (of three), while the quilt in the link has a single band on the group of 4 wedges. Not a major difference.
Such a beautiful quilt!!! My favorites are the old ones. Glad you're hand quilting it :D
What a treasure! Very happy that you are handquilting this as it just seems fitting or proper for this particular quilt. Sure will be stunning when completed!

Thank you Lady T. for the download. One more project. I will now have to live to be 94 to do them all. |
I love this quilt.....
I have seen this in a book somewhere, yes it is a fan block, but I think it has something to do with a snake, I know ewwww, but that is what I remember.
Love the placement, gives it a really different look besides the fans.
