I hope to encourage everyone to post pictures here of their work on the Second Sampler Quilt Along.

I would love love to see progress pics as well as finished quilt block pics.

I don't make big quilts so please if anyone has ideas for putting these quilt blocks into quilts add your thoughts here!!!

Any helpful advice or suggestions are more than welcome!!

Rhonda one of the ladies in our First Saturday group makes sampler baby quilts all the time and I think they turn out wonderful.

I'd love to say 'I'm in' but the idea of committing to just one more thing about freaks me out! LOL I'll be enjoying looking at all of the blocks and am sure I'll have to make a few myself. Thanks for putting this together, Rhonda!

Here are my blocks for week #1. I did "Ashley" in 2 sizes. The smaller one was a test run (and will probably get a border and be made into a pillow), I've decided to go with the larger size to make a bed quilt. Thanks for looking!

OK, didn't know it was up and running yet. Is this going to be for all the blocks I hope, that way we won't miss any.
This is a 6 1/2".

Here is my Ashley block and here is my plan(you know about best laid plans). The floral fabric has purple, pink, green, brown and yellow. I am going to use that fabric and maybe the polkadot in all the blocks and mix up the accent colors. They will be 18 inch blocks so maybe I will get a quilt sooner rather than later.

Nice job and pretty colors. I can't wait to see about 10 weeks down the road what everyones blocks are going to turn out to be.

Obsessed 10-20-2011 12:38 PM

Very pretty PokerDiva! I love the floral and the polka dot together.

PokerDiva 10-20-2011 01:10 PM

Thank you. I am a polka dot fan.

Here is my block for week#2 - "Autumn." I am really pleased with how this block turned out, except for my complete inability to get the points in the very middle to match up. My seam ripper was getting quite the workout. Finally, I just had to drink a beer and get over it! ;-) Isn't that how everyone quilts???

I noticed that in Rhonda's pattern she used four different greens - that inspired me to make mine a little bit scrappy and I really like how that turned out.

Thanks for looking!

I love it! I just love seeing how everyone interprets my designs. I enjoy seeing all the color combinations! Your's turned out terrific! Your points turned out just fine!

klgreene 10-22-2011 06:40 PM

Very very nice. And you are quick. I haven't started mine yet, strips are cut, but I have a couple of charity blocks I need to do first. But I want to do mine before Friday. I recognize a lot of your fabric, do we shop the same place??

Obsessed, don't feel so bad about your points. I had a time with mine also. If it hadn't been so early in the morning I would have had a glass of wine( I don't like beer). Here is mine. Looks like I cut off the top of the pic but you get the drift.

Very nice, these are all turning out fabulous.
I think I will start mine today. Wish me luck, I've never done a 6 1/2" star block.

One trick to remember ladies is tack tack tack. If you stitch a stitch where the points meet they won't move. I hold the two points together and then fold back the tip of the corner so you can see if the points are meeting. If you tack them in place then you should save some frustration with the points.

You can also tack where the bottom of the center fabric meets the other SP block.

Also mine aren't always perfect so some imperfection is expected!! We aren't perfect!!

Obsessed 10-23-2011 03:52 PM

Thanks Ladies - PokerDiva, I am really loving those polka dots - nice block! Your points look perfect to me. Jealous!

Rhonda, I know you're right. I saw your advice on tacking before and I just didn't do it. Too rebellious! Tacking is one of those things that I think will take too long - and then I spend an hour trying to get those silly points straight! After a day or two away from the block, I may pick it up and take one more go at the center points - tacking them this time!

Katie - good luck on the 6 1/2 block! You're my hero for undertaking that - not that it's hard - it's not - just a lot of fiddly little pieces to match up.

Here's my Autumn, week # 2. ......this was a lot of fun and turned out better than I expected. Sure are little squares. I think my little sampler is going to be really cute, if I do say so myself. This is a 6 1/2".... boy the closeup shows all the mistakes. lol

Looks good to me Katie! Star points and the smaller size might take a bit of practice to get it where you want it to be. But mine are quite often off so it is the nature of the beast sometimes!!

Are those fabrics cotton? They almost look like flannel to me.

Obsessed 10-23-2011 06:22 PM

Katie - your fabrics are so much fun! I agree with you. Your sampler is going to be really cute. The block looks great!

No the fabrics are 100% cotton. It's just that I zoomed in so close so you can see the weave of the fabric.

These are blocks for wk1 and wk2

Very nice Katie. Very brave doing such a little block. I just seeing how different everyone's look doing the same block.

klgreene 10-24-2011 08:08 AM

Since I've started on this board, I have tried just about everything, and I now don't know how to do any blocks except Rhonda's way. lol And I would have never tried the smaller stuff if Rhonda hadn't made it so easy. Yes I am a big big fan of Rhondas!!!!!!

Love them Katie! They do look great together.

Obsessed 10-30-2011 04:12 AM

Another beautiful happy block Katie! I love how they look on point too.

I need to get moving! Been working on a couple other things but I think I'll start my block today....

Krystyna 10-30-2011 01:01 PM

Rhonda, I'm wondering if there is a way to cut these using strips. I am a confessed scrapaholic and all the itty bitty pieces are driving me nuts. I can't bring myself to throw them out, but I should.

Yes you can sew strips together for the Bostons or the Kansas Dugouts. You can sew two strips together for the Kansas Dugouts and then trim the center strip to the size you want. Then sew on the third strip. After you have all 3 strips cut then cut off a 3 3/4" sections and then use the 2 1/2" template to cut out your Kansas Dugout. You can pull the remaining leftovers apart and resuse them to sew more strips together and cut out more blocks.

Have you seen my confusion method or the crumb block method that is posted on here? You can sew your little pieces into bigger blocks and do a crazy type block. It uses them up quite nicely!
