I have always delighted in seeing photos of other peoples sewing room or area. perhaps, it is to get ideas to help me or just that, it is another thrill to see beloved sewing machines and more fabric. haa what ever it may be lets show each other where we labor sew lovingly over our projects. i'll go first...and please don't clean up, that would take the fun out of seeing all those scraps of fabric...I really would like to see Tims'!!
|
that would mean photographing just about the whole house 'cuz my stuff is everywhere!
|
yeah, but where do you sit to sew?
|
Mine is so cluttered its like watching a horror movie like the Blob. The mess just keeps growing and growing > Like the bunny that never stops, my mess has a mind of its own and it grows worse every night after I go to bed. :!:
|
I'll be brave - when I get home from work, I'll take a pic & post it. Well, I'll point towards the sewing machine - since, like Patrice, my whole house is my sewing room! LOL

Bottom Row From Left to Right: my design studio; local fabric shop (the part thats semi-pseudo organized); somewhere under there is my cutting mat; Top Row, L2R: state of the art sewing center (which is only that empty because i moved everything to the counter this morning while i took some photos while i was constructing the big block); $32,000 ironing table (only the best for me!) and last but not least ... my handy-dandy combination thread storage and high-tech repositionable design wall; |

Okay - here are 3 views of my sewing room. And yes, I am a certifiable neat freak.
After years of fighting ADD, I HAVE to put things away or I will never find them again. view from the door closet view built in desk |

I tried to put smaller images up, but they were so dark you couldn't see them!
Anyway.... the first one shows my stash cabinet - next to the tv. The cat's "feeding station" is in front of it. I actually have "that room" too, where it looks like one of those organization shows "BEFORE" pictures, but I try not to open the door LOL! When I put together the cabinet (thanks, IKEA!), and was starting to fill it up, the only thing on top of it was the angel....which, when the cabinet tipped a little bit, fell on my head! You should have seen the knot I had! LOL The next one is my sewing table, that stack of boxes to the left are the ones I filled up last week from the fabric stacked on my coffee table & sewing table! The quilt hanging behind it is the first one I designed myself. Oh, and yes, I do live in a mobile home.... :D sue |
Kathy and Sue, thanks for sharing, everybody seems to be hard at sewing, and shows your devotion to this art! You all have so much fabric!!!
Mine is still a small stash but I'm working on it!! That Angel must of hurt like heck....my husband cannot believe how much room my sewing takes up. I have filled out those "win a sewingroom make over" so many times..are these things for real? ha..i just keep hoping! |

Thanks guys it's great to see everyones workspace, You're all so industrious and have such good ways of using your space.
But there is no way you gonna get me to post a pic of my mess on the WWW    It'd take me a week just to make it presentable and think of how much quilting time I'd lose  |
At the moment my sewing room is a guest room. I'll share a pic in a couple of weeks after I've put it all back. Promise. Just imagine, I'll have a very neat sewing room to take a picture of since I've cleared it out and cleaned it up.
Thanks to all you brave souls who have already shared your work rooms. I'm very impressed. Lots of creative work going on! |

I don't have any pictures of my room yet, I'm hoping for a digital camera for my b-day. But here's my story. When we bought this house 7 years ago, there was a room framed out in the basement. Many discussions were held concerning this room, and what it would become. I never said a word. I was used to working on my dining room table, and having to pick up when company came. Then a couple years ago, our youngest son began to talk of turning it into an audio-visual room. I decided it was time to speak up. I told my DH it would be perfect for a sewing room for me. At first, nobody took me seriously, but eventually Dan realized I was serious. So, to make a long story short, he wired the room, (he's an electrician, I have more plugs than you can imagine!), dry-walled, painted it a sunny yellow, put in a laminate floor, and 2 cabinets. For Christmas last year, our kids and their families got me a 4 foot table that holds my sewing machine. My room is my sanctuary from dealing with a job I truly despise, my 79 year old mother, who thinks quilting is a waste of time, and the world in general. I tell my husband all the time how much I love my room-and him for finishing it for me. I will post pics soon.

Great quilting nests. I have pix but am not sure how to post them. :?

oh Julie, what a wonderful story!! Can't wait to see a picture of it.
|
My mother too thinks quilting is a waste of time util a sibling or niece or nephew is ready to produce offspring and then tells me I need to make them a baby quilt. Everyones pictures inspired me to do a little straightening this weekend My cutting table has showed up again. All this time, I thought it had walked off. Turns out, it was buried under piles of fabric. Now the closet is bursting at the seams. I guess that means I simply need to sew more!
|
I decided to pull my fabric out of the drawers to see what I have, cuz it is hidden, well i found nothing but bright fabrics, seems this is all i have been ordering lately, hardly any solids so i caught the last day sale at JoAnns and stocked up on solids, actully piled my fabric up on the shelf so i could see it and know what i have to work with, very little it seems, as I have just started quilting. Finally started on a project I just might finish as i plan to send this one out to be long armed quilted. I have fabric with large print and had a difficult time deciding how to place it all...nothing inspirational hit me so it's big blocks with sashings, oh well the colors are pretty, very fond of blues and yellows!!! maybe i should take another picture of my sewing room cause now it is really messy!!! ha
|
Catherine, I know how hard it is to find a block that suits large print and is also at beginner level. I found that the Irish chain is a nice way to show off a large print and the chain pieces can set off one color in the print if they are solid or semi-solid.
I really like the Leisure Arts quilt books. They have pretty easy patterns that are really versatile. You might take a look at "Wild About Flowers" or one of their other ones for inspiration. Post pics when you have them! |

The room's not very large--but the closet wall is all mirrors, so it looks bigger and the lighting reflects great!! It's my comfy little sanctuary.
|
I have a cabinet in which the machine will fit flush. thank goodness for that, but Leslee, your stash looks about the size of mine, except mine is not nearly as neatly arranged. i love to sew, but there is a slob in me that stays out most of the time as opposed to the neatnick that never shows up!
|
thanks for the information
|
wow Lesle, you are neat .I loved spying at your stash!!!!! Is that a quilting frame for a long arm..? I'm getting envious!!!!

thank you for the sites!
|
Catherine, no--that's a Gracie Frame for hand quilting and it's usually got some project in it that I'm working on. When it's empty it folds up nice and flat, but I've got noplace to store it so there it sits! I try to stay neat, honest I do. Not always easy. If I photo'd the room with the mirrored closet doors open you'd see what I mean  !!!

The children and grandchildren have gone home. I've spent a week clearing out cupboards and the sewing room is almost back together. The cutting table still has clutter to store somewhere. Tomorrow I have jury duty so I don't suppose I'll get to stitch up Tim's block yet AND tomorrow is another BOM posting. Sigh! I'm behind again. Story of my life! BUT my room looks good.
We called St. Vincent de Paul to pick up the twin bed that was cluttering up my sewing room. I feel like there is so much space in there now that I can dance! Wow! I feel absolutely spoiled! After I figured out the picture problems then the internet dropped me. Lovely! One more time... Here it goes!! gotta get that cutting table cleared off! |
Can't wait to see a picture..the "before it's cluttered" then ...you have to take another one for "AFTER it's cluttered."..... only fair!!!!
Leslee's room IS SO NEAT!! ... |
