Pieced border on Cat Quilt?
2 Attachment(s)
I'm doing a variation of a cat quilt design. I'm making two, one in purples/pinks and one in blues/greens.
I would really like to add a pieced border to the blue one but I'm struggling with coming up with a new idea. Here is the purple one (finished) and a mock up of an example pieced border for the blue one. I'm just not sure I like it. Advice or other border options would be appreciated. I really love both of them! And I love the border on the blue one! And the pink/purple one is wonderful! Where did you find the pattern? I'm a cat person and these are great!!!
Beautiful, both of them!!!!!!
Both are great! Great quilt!
i love the cats.
I love them both. Where did you find the pattern?
This is a great pattern! Is the blue one from EQ? Did you make the pattern?
I like the border on the blue, but the solid corner stones are bugging me. I think you should do a triangle in each corner stone so it connects them. |
Really like these two quilts. I like the purple and pink, but absolutely love the blue. I have never seen them before. Would love to know where to get the pattern.
I like your look
love the colour of your cats |
Great quilts!
Take a look at QuiltersCache .. they have some pieced border patterns |

Here's a link for Quilters Cache and this pattern would be good also and just use the "X" block for the corners minus the line on the outside triangle. http://www.quilterscache.com/C/CrossoversBorder.html |
Very clever! I think both your borders look great!
Super cute! Go for it!
Awesome design! Go for it.

I once made a fish border around a cat quilt. It looked like a diamond and a half diamond in a row. Looked cute.
They are both just great, thanks for sharing your layout! So original! Just love them.
I really like that. Sometimes that pattern can look so busy, but you've included enough background that it lets the cats stand out. Nice job!
I really like the border on the blue one. It kind of reminds me of the movement in cat's tails. I'd go for it!
Thanks everyone for all the links and advice on the border options! I like the fish border idea a lot (I was originally thinking about mice, but I couldn't find an easy/quick basic pattern) and am also playing with connecting the corners as suggested.
To everyone who asked, here is a link to the pdf of the original pattern, called Kool Kats Kwilt and made by Patti Carey. http://www.stitch-n-frame.net/images/koolkatskwilt_.pdf The blue one I did in EQ7, I will be happy to send out the PJ7 file to anyone interested. |
I love both of them, but especially the blue one. Agree with a triangle on the corner blocks to bring them together.

Played around with the ideas proposed and now I have a couple great options! Its going to be tough to decide which one... although I'm leaning towards the fishies because I intend this quilt to go to a little girl who has leukemia.

Oh mon Dieu!!! (OMG in french) I think we have a winner!! Definetely the fishes. Too cool!! Good Job. Isn't EQ a fabulous software?
A great big YES from me. They are both great, and I really love the blue one and the border too! Leave it like that. It is just beautiful!!!
Wow, you added more borders, but I still like the first one best. But, doggone it, since it is your quilt, I guess you will choose. You do nice work. Congratulations. |
Just wonderful, great job and thank you for sharing
Have a Blessed day Ellen |
...like your size and number of cats. Nice job.
Love them both - the colors are so vibrant
If you're taking votes, mine is for the fishies. It's a little less busy, and you could embellish with small crystals/rhinestones for an eye on each fish (depending on how old the girl is - certain ages like a little bling). Just a few random thoughts. These look really great and she is going to love her blanket no matter which design you go with. :)
The book "Border Workbook" has a cute mouse border that might work with these.
I think either one is great! But I would add a border of the background fabric before you add the final border. I think it would make the cats stand out more, rather than have them looking like they are pressed up against the border. (Although my cats DO like to be squished in a box!)
I love both the quilts, the first because I love cats and purple and the blue quilt because of the colors and pieced border. Greatjob.

Pollytink is right. The border on the blue is perfect. Both are just too cool. Nice work on the pink and I'm sure the blue will be great when you get to it. Thanks for sharing and I, too, would love to have the pattern.
Not sure if the blue/green border works with the cat design. Have you thought about a 4-patch?
Love both borders, but I think I'd applique a few paw prints around just to add a little interest and some color contrast.
Thanks for all the feedback!
I had several people ask for a PDF of the pattern and I do not have it currently. I will work getting it converted over the next couple days and post a link or send it out to anyone who is interested. |
Your work is beautiful. I'd be very interest in getting the pattern. DD#2 is a cat lover and might really enjoy having a quilt like this.
I like both borders. Love the quilts.
