Pieced Hexagons
6 Attachment(s)
I was intrigued by some pictures of pieced hexagons I found online, so I decided I wanted to do a quilt with them. It's still a long way to go, but I've done 7 blocks so far (approximately 12 inches). As usual for me, they are all scrappy.
My mom will be 70 next summer, so I am thinking of making them into a quilt for her. |

Love all the fabric choices

Those are very interesting "outside the box" or "not your Granmother's" hexagons patterns.
|
Very nice. I was expecting to see the usual hexis but nope.... yours is different. I like it.
|
Beautiful blocks. Can't wait to see the finished project. BrendaK

Great! What is the online site? Are you hand or machine piecing? What size are they?

However, instead of buying the pattern I figured I could easily draw them up myself... :o The hexagons are 12 inches. I'm sure they could be machine pieced, however, as I don't have a sewing machine I am hand-piecing. |
Very pretty and you've got some cool fussy cutting in there, too!!

I just realised I'm mentioning 7 blocks but only posted 6 pictures. Here's the missing one:

OH my goodness. I didn't realize you were doing all different ones. They are all great. Keep going. I'm sure it will be most appreciated.

Can't wait to see more!
|
Wow, I love all of these blocks!!!
|
Those are all so beautiful, you do very good work.
|
Oh my gosh they are wonderful!!!!
|
I think Bonnie a Hunter and her friend did a joint project last year. Her friend has a book on making pieced hexagons I think her name was Mickey Dupre.
|
Some intricate piecing there. Be sure to show us the completed quilt.
|
Fabulous blocks!! This is going to be an amazing quilt!
|
I just purchased a book this past weekend about pieced hexagons. I bought it not realizing that it was talking about HAND piecing, something at which I am no longer adept.
I looked very carefully, and a)you have a fantastically small hand stitch or b)you machine pieced. Your hexagons look like the ones in my book however. May I ask, did you actually hand-piece these hexagons? |
A total surprise. A very pleasant one I might add. Wonderful blocks and they are going to make a very interesting quilt. I'll be 70 the year after your mom. Just saying............
|
Those are awesome blocks. Thanks for sharing.

Maybe you got the book that goes with the pictures I found online... :)
They are all hand-pieced, I don't have a sewing machine. After being pretty disappointed at finding these blocks were all supposed to be hand pieced, I began trying to figure out a way to make them by paper piecing. And I thought of enlarging the pages to use , say, 2 1/2 inch strips. I looked into the photo copying rights in the front of the book to see if it was ok to enlarge the pages but nothing specific. Then, after digesting your note about finding online I really did feel silly. I guess I'll continue to work on figuring out a way. Anyway, I enjoyed seeing yours. |
Love your blocks. Scrappy or not they really look great.
|
Your hand piecing is incrediable! Please keep posting as you continue with this project.

Monale---- do you choose not to have a sewing machine...hope I am not being nosy......your handwork is great, so I know you could do great things with a SM...... |
Those are really innovative designs! You pack a lot of piecing into each block. They are marvelous!
|
I love them all. you sure are thinking outside the hexagon.

Hmm, inklingo looks fascinating.....does it really work better than EPP? I am so afraid to jam up a printer, than have to buy another...plus ink is so expensive...isn't it cheaper to order from precut source? Rather than print out? Just thinking out loud .....let me know ....
Monale---- do you choose not to have a sewing machine...hope I am not being nosy......your handwork is great, so I know you could do great things with a SM...... I'm a bit undecided about getting a sewing machine... I'd love to have one, specifically: a vintage Bernina 830 (that's my mom's machine on which I learned sewing as a kid/teenager). However, it is currently not very practical for me to have my own sewing machine as I'm a bid of a "nomad" and a sewing machine is just a very heavy item to move... And it needs space to set up... Plus I'm not so sure if I could get a decent machine for my budget here (definitely no vintage Berninas around). But whenever I am near my mom, her machine "comes on holiday" to me. She says it's going to be mine one day anyway, but I hope that day is still a VERY long time in the future! |
Wow! I love your blocks!! Hexies are a favorite of mine.
|
Really like your Blocks... New Look for our quilts. Thanks for sharing with us.
