A nice use for linens. Nice job.

Very nice keepsake.

What a lovely quilt. I also have some & plan quilt in future.
My suggestion for getting linens white. I put warm water in bucket --add drops of laundry soap and mix in a scoop of OXI clean. Soak the cloth for a day or two then rinse well. If you are in a sunny area lay old sheet on grass then lay linen/case/ cloth whatever on the sheet out in sun for it to dry. May have to repeat. For yellow type from head sweat I also use "GOOP" which is a hand cleaner for mechanics bought at hardware etc store. It's a white cream that I used for years to take marks off clothing. Rub the goop into the damp pillowcase --put aside for few days then wash/dry. Will not harm colors either What fabric and color did you use for the back of your quilt? Think that's all my questions. |

Your quilt reminds me of my mother, she used to embroidered pillow cases, but she has passed away, and I don't have any of them, I don't know if there are any of them left or not. Two of my brother's have moved in, and things are getting broken, and thrown away. They throw away a lot of things that are not broke, too. They burned all of momas Christmas stuff that I would have liked to have. One of my brother's did save a ceramic santa, and her unused cards, and gave them to me. Some of the Christmas stuff I made and gave her. I sure do miss my mother, a lot. You did a great job on your quilt, and I know you will enjoy your treasures the family members made. It is a lot better to make use of things, than to leave them in a closet.

A treasure to be passed down for generations.............
|
What a beautiful quilt and I really like the idea you had with this one.
|
What a wonderful idea! Such a treasure!

I would put together a small photo album with pictures of each block. Then I would jot down whatever you know about that pillowcase, like: Who embroidered it? What year? How are you related to that person? etc. This would be a great thing to pass on to your children or grandchildren.

WHat an inspiration! I have old handmade pillowcases and doilies that would be great in a project like this. Thanks for the great idea.

So wonderful that you could preserve this beautiful work. You did an amazing job.

Beautiful treasure!

Beautiful quilt. I have quite a few handkerchiefs (ladies and men's). I'll have to look at them. Great work!
|
Very lovely, and what a great use for the pillow cases, instead of sitting in the linen closet like mine are. I don't know if I would have the heart to cut them up. All of my cases are in pairs.... so I have two of everything.
|
Great idea!!!

Oh, what memories. Some of my first sewing tasks were embroidery work on pillow cases when I was 7 and 8 years old. I wish I had some of them. I have no idea where they have disappeared to. My mom introduced me to needle work just before my 6th birthday and it has been an obsession never since and from time to time a source of income. Thank you Momma for taking the time with me.
Your quilt is a gem and will preserve this special form of work for years and years to come. |
That's really pretty! I bought a bunch of those pillowcase kits at a yard sale but didn't think of using them like this. Yours turned out great!
