I made these as a gift. They were so fun and easy, I think I will make some more.

Thanks! The Folded Star pin cushion is made with a foundation template from Plum Easy Patterns. I used the dimensions of a free pattern I found online - Heather Bailey Square Deal Pin Cushion - for the one with the selvage top.

I've never made a pin cushion. Are they hard to do? Those are really cute and you did a great job..

QuiltnNan 12-21-2012 06:42 PM

nicely done

misscarol 12-21-2012 08:19 PM

What is your filler? I am making the strawberries and am having a difficult time finding crushed walnut shells (where I live).

JuneBillie 12-21-2012 10:00 PM

Both are so pretty.

Thank you. These were the first pin cushions for me. I thought they were really easy to do (and I don't have a lot of experience). Easy enough that I am going to make more!

I used crushed walnut shells in the folded star cushion, and some poly pellets I got at JoAnn's in the selvage cushion. I have heard that sand makes a good filler, also.

Try a pet store. They are in the area for snakes and such and much less expensive that way.

Greenheron 12-23-2012 08:36 AM

They are so neat and so colorful....I wonder if some of these beautiful little treasures could be tacked to a ribbon and displayed just for pretty?

JanieH 12-23-2012 09:16 AM

You need to enter the next pincushion swap.

raspberryparade09 12-24-2012 05:47 PM

Your pin cushions are so cute!! Just a note about the filling - we shouldn't use walnut shells or sand any more. A generation ago they did, because the pins rust. The pins we buy now do not rust. If you use walnut shells or sand, you will remove the protective coating that is on the pins and they could rust.
